Call of Duty is one of the most successful video game franchises in the world and every year around Veteran’s Day a new edition is released. This year was the sequel to Treyarch’s Black Ops simply titled Black Ops 2. Will Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 deliver? I’ve personally preferred Infinity Ward’s CoD games more than Treyarch however I really enjoyed Black Ops and had high hopes for the sequel. The first thing that stands out in Black Ops 2 is the futuristic setting which many fans felt was a mistake. In reality the game is about 70% in the year 2025 and 30% in the 1980’s. The single player campaign has you shifting through time playing various characters including favorites from the first game like Sgt. Woods and Alex Mason. In the 2025 missions you play as Alex ... Medal of Honor: Warfighter Review
The Medal of Honor series rebooted in 2010 and I really enjoyed the game giving it a high review score. The direct sequel was released this October titled Medal of Honor: Warfighter. Will it live up to it’s predecessor? Warfighter’s campaign mode picks up right after the original game as you continue to fight the terrorist’s to prevent them from using the PETN weapon. You will travel to Bosnia, Somalia, Pakistan and the Philippines. The story features two soldiers as you jump back and forth between their tales. Stump who is a Recon Marine turned Navy SEAL and Preacher who you will remember from the first game. The game also features Dusty as he operates from a command center for most of the game. I really wanted to enjoy this game and even pre-ordered it however the campaign was a ... Read More »
SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs Review
I have been a Sony loyalist for a long time now. The major attraction that continues to draw me to Sony is the huge selection of Sony exclusive titles. Somehow over the years I’ve continued to pass on a very successful series titled SOCOM. A few months back that all changed. I was able to purchase SOCOM 4: US Navy SEALs at a discount price for $10. I couldn’t pass this opportunity to finally experience a shooter that has a cult like following. For those that aren’t familiar, SOCOM 4 is a 3rd person tactical shooter. The single player campaign has you playing as Cullen Gray, a NATO Ops Commander. You lead a team of 5 soldiers against a entire army trying to take over a country in Southeast Asia. At times in the campaign you switch to Forty-Five, a Female Lieutenant in the ... Read More »
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Review
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is the sequel to one of my most enjoyable gaming experiences in recent years. Can the title live up to the first game? The short answer is yes the game lives up to the expectations and exceeds it. The game picks up right after the first title. The Autobots are trying to leave Cybertron in desperation as Megatron and the Decepticons are controlling the planet. You will play as Autobots and Decepticons over a 6 day period during a epic story with 13 chapters of play. Fall of Cybertron does a great job informing you of the story so it’s not necessary for you to play War for Cybertron however I highly recommend it. The first mission starts with a bang as the Ark is being ambushed by Megatron. This mission has you playing Bumblebee and ... Read More »
Resistance 2 Review
Resistance 2 was released in November 2008 and is the direct sequel to one of my favorite and best selling PS3 games. The game picks up right after Resistance: Fall of Man. You continue as American Soldier Nathan Hale fighting the alien race known as Chimera. Immediately after your fight in Europe, Hale is extracted by a Special Research Projects Administration VTOL and brought to Iceland. After surviving a Chimera attack, Hale is introduced to a group of Special Forces known as the Sentinals. Sentinals are soldiers who have been affected by the Chimera virus much like Hale and have super natural abilities. As you continue through the story, Hale gets promoted to Lieutenant and the Chimera invades the United States. You will battle the Chimera all over the country including California, Idaho, Utah and Illinois. You will experience a ... Read More »
R.U.S.E. Review
One of my favorite video game genres is Real Time Strategy and these games are primarily available for PC’s. With me being a console gamer most of the time, I don’t get to enjoy the RTS games like I want to. I was searching around for a decent RTS console game and came across R.U.S.E. The game received some decent reviews and recommendations and I decided to snag a copy off eBay. R.U.S.E. is set during WWII and features a wide variety of game modes. Before I discuss the modes and story in detail, I want to cover my favorite part about the game, the zoom in/out battlefield. Zoom all the way out and you see a table top map with blue and red markings for troops. Zoom all the way in and you see actual soldiers, tanks, artillery, buildings, ... Read More »
Duke Nukem Forever Review
Back in 1997 Duke Nukem was on top of the Gaming World. Duke Nukem 3D was one of the most popular games of all time and it’s sequel was in development. What turned out to be one of the most bizarre developments of all time across every media platform, Duke Nukem Forever didn’t get released until June 2011. That’s right folks, this game was 15 years in the making. For 15 years fans of the series went through a roller coaster of ups and downs. This game suffered through lawsuits, company changes, system generation changes and 4 Presidential terms before it was finally released. Duke Nukem Forever became a joke amongst the gaming community and the game went through one more final delay in the months before it was officially released. The question that everyone had on their mind after ... Read More »
Resistance: Fall of Man Review
November 2006, the Playstation 3 was released and a “system seller” came out along with it. The first must have game for the new system, Resistance: Fall of Man. Resistance is a first person shooter that takes place in 1951. Glancing at the game, you might expect this to be a World War 2 game but it’s so much more. The setting and story is what attracted me to the game so many years ago. In the 1930’s a alien race known as the Chimera land and take over Russia. By 1949 the Chimera have conquered Europe and are ready to completely take over the United Kingdom thus causing WWII to never happen. Even though WWII never took place, the setting is still relevant to world history. We were still focused on War and weapons during the 1940’s. Only now ... Read More »
Battlefield 3 Review
I’ve been a die hard Call of Duty fan for the last several years. I’ve heard the rumblings that Battlefield was a superior game however I’ve always viewed it as more of a PC game. In 2011, Battlefield 3 was released shortly before the annual CoD game. Many gamers decided that they had to have both, while some chose one or the other. Looking at sales, I was in the majority and chose just one title and that was CoD. Fast forward to Spring of 2012, Battlefield 3 was on sale and I decided to pull the trigger and see what the fuss is about. The first thing I noticed was the stunning graphics. Visually the game is top notch. DICE did a great job getting the most out of the Frostbite 2 engine. The lights and darks really stand ... Read More »
Killzone 3 Review
When Killzone 3 was announced, Sony fan boys from around the world were ecstatic. I was no different, I placed my pre order right away, went back and played some more KZ2 and watched the net for every piece of news and videos that came out. Finally in early 2011, Killzone 3 was released on the Playstation 3. The buzz around this “Halo Killer” was tremendous. I purchased my copy at midnight and immediately started the Campaign. This First Person Shooter picks up right after the previous title as the Helghast and ISA are still at war. The first mission has you playing as a Helghast guard as you walk through a weapons factory until you end up at the execution room. You start to participate in the live execution of a captured ISA Captain until it’s revealed that you ... Read More »
