Test fitting the canopy.

The kit I bought doesn't come with a cockpit so I am making a very simple one for display.

Quick test fit.

Gonna be an "in flight" display? I vaguely followed that thread over yonder, and I thought I recalled a geared option.

Anyway, I'll be keeping an eye on this one. Still don't know how they thought they'd get the X-4s to work on the 183 when it proved unfeasible on the 190.

Isn't that the plane that had a tail design so obstinate that it would just tear off under actual flight? I mean it's a cool looking design but isn't it technically impossible to actually do?

I'm digging that. Looks great. You doing the paint scheme from the pic?
Thanks, not sure yet.

Yep, in flight. He hasn't released the full version yet.

Looks pretty possible to me son...

Maybe I'm confusing it for the Volksjager then. I could have sworn I read something about the tail coming off during wind tunnel experiments. Maybe IL-2 Sturmovik was full of shit.

I imagine the 183 would have been just as problematic as the Pulqui ultimately proved to be.

According to wiki, ten of I./JG 1's thirteen He 162 losses were caused by flame-outs or structural failures, so maybe there's some truth to that.

I know the Germans had trouble with the glue they used on the Volksjager wings. Several pilots were killed when the wings fell off.

Filling on the spine and some primer.

Milliput for the wing gaps and the intakes.

Looks good. When's the canopy going on there?

Filling and sanding done, whew!

Primed with self etching primer, a must for fiberglass IMO.

Painted panel lines, not my best work. Too much coffee? Too many beers? Must be liquor, because I don't recall.

Aluminum bits, I wish I would have used Modelmaster instead of Tamiya.

Fins! Lots of fins! Another poor paint choice.

My belly belly.

I'm all about the base.

Camo, I tried a new technique for the edges. Not sure I like it, especially along the rear of the fuselage. Thoughts?

Defense of Reich band and some insignias. It's been a while since I used stencils I forgot a light hand is better than a heavy one.

Rudolph the red nosed Nutzi.
The kit's maker is fabricating a new, smaller more accurate canopy.

Decals on, not a ton of them. I wish I would have used the included stencils with white paint to help them stand out, but hindsight is 20/20 and I thought I could skip the extra work...

Working on the X-4 Ruhrstahl missiles. Still need some touch-ups.

This is coming along great!

Yeah, it is. The Reichsluftverteidigung (say that five times fast) bands are a little rough to my eye, though. Then again, I know how rough painting crisp bands like that can be.

Every time I see that missle, I think of the first Captain America movie. I want to add a propeller to it and throw a Hydra Soldier in it.

^lol...You are bang on though. Red and white are very unforgiving colors and my woes are compounded by the fact that the fuselage isn't symmetrical.

Missiles done, the duality of air to air missiles with plywood fins speaks volumes of Germany at the time.

Mounting to the pylons, I filled over the alignment holes like a mOron.

Added some pins for the wing attachment.

Dum dum puttied over more alignment holes, so I provised a jig.

Not too shabby.

I'm in this weird limbo where the build is pretty much done but I'm waiting on the improved canopy from the kitmaker. So yes and no...
