Just got my Skywarp in and he's absolutely beautiful. Paint is crisp, joints and ratchets are tight, everything pegs in securely. The plastic finish is top notch, and it feels very much like a quality product.

Seriously. I can shake Skywarp like crazy and his wings and chest stay together. I look at Starscream funny and he falls apart.
Skywarp was always fixed. The Takara version of him and Thundercracker are both solid. Starscream, on the other hand... Explody as fuck.
Just looked him up and he definitely gives off the Ironhide toon vibe, but are his legs too skinny for his chest?
I dig the FT version, but the MMC one is damn near perfect as-is. I'm still waiting on 4 items to come into my POL at BBTS before shipping my FT Hound, but I have no doubt they'll knock it out of the park.
But waiting as long as it'll take for it to come into stock though? By that time, we'll have an official Takara one.
What does seem a bit shady is how they revealed it. They've already got too much shit in the pipeline as it is, and it just reeks of "let's fuck over the other 3P guys" by revealing theirs.

Do a Jazz or Cliffjumper, or something that's not already got like what, 4, 5? in the pipeline already? May be the first FT item I skip that's not from the 3rd season-forward, simply due to late timing on it.

There's a really good chance that you'll be waiting a whole extra year for their version compared to when the others release.
I wouldn't be surprised if Takara even beat them to market. But it does look good. The more I look at it, I prefer his height, too. Which is the only thing that may make me hold out, plus the fact that FT makes damn good figures (despite what the few naysayers say).
The mouth is slightly too high (their faces do suck 50% of the time, but they're getting better at it) and the doors have that weird visible hinge between the cab and bed, but otherwise it matches perfectly to the cartoon in height and aesthetics. Right down to the tiniest of details, which even MMC missed. (The knee details are spot-on.)
But yes, it won't be in anyone's hands until this time next year, if they go with their typical schedule. They've simply got way too much to put out between now and then.
I'm sticking with MMCs. I like that they are sticking with TTs original toon/toy designs. I don't a collection that's 50/50 toon/toy mix (what TT started with) and the other half slavishly toon.

Robin's shorts have always had scale-like details on them. That wash seems a bit heavy though. I have both versions of that figure on my shelf, and I've never noticed it, so it might be that the pic's had the contrast cranked up.

I, for one, am happy to get as many larger carbots as possible, plus it adds some color variety. So I'll be getting him in addition to Inferno.
I just pushed ship on my POL, so hopefully I'll have Hound in by the end of next week, if BBTS doesn't fuck around all week before shipping. Finally, getting some green in my Autobot ranks. It's a very red-white-blue crowd save for the Dinobots, with a small dash of yellow here and there.

Besides, I've got so much 3P stuff coming in the near future. I added up all my preorders that are slated for september/Q3 release, and I've got over $600 worth of 3P bots that could drop in my lap any day now. There is no room in my buying schedule for TT's latest tooneriffic output.
This current design team is just not doing it for me. I don't know if it's the designs, the character choices (that's a lot of it), or if the aesthetics are veering too far away from the original MP conceit, but I'm just not feeling it. TT's releases have gone from "insta-buy" to "automatic shrug of indifference".

But yeah, that project made a mess of our dinning room and living room? Family room? Whichever one is the one no one really uses. I also covered everything in the basement with a layer of sawdust. She was, surprisingly tolerant. She didn't love it, just occasionally casually asked "how much longer?". It does feel a little bit good that she thinks it's cool. It'd be terrible if she just hated it.
Thanks though. Never has "labor of love" been more appropriate in all my life. So often I wanted to shelve it, but with so much time invested, quitting would've been stupid.

Please tell me you took pictures during the making of this giant. I'd love to see what was handcrafted from wood, etc and how you chopped up the vehicles. You did such an excellent job, it's hard to wrap my head around what was actually involved.
