Have any of you noticed the changes?

Basically same figures and paint apps, just new colors of hair, face paint and packaging.

What's new is the head sculpt with a Balacalava (I know I butchered that word) with sunglasses. 3 different colors to go with the 3 series (tan, OD Green and Black).
It looks good.

There new names for the different series with distinct paint apps for each.

Recon which were Marines
Infantry which were Rangers
Tactical which were Delta

There are still paratroopers but with less gear and smaller packaging

Yeah, I've known about them for some time. Actually sent someone one of the balaclava-clad (see, you only added an extra "a"!) figures.

Didn't see the Tactical line, but they all reminded me that they could be stripped for pouches and rucksacks.

lately I have been buying WWII just for the heads ):
My biggest jiff with bravo team is there "head" repeats, so this is a baby step forward.

but bravo team figs are still cheaper and better than bbi figs

I wouldn't say Unimax figures are markedly better than late-run Bbi figures, especially when it comes to paint apps.

Each of the little guys has it's strong points. They all suck in the articulation department compared to Joes, though.

Digging the new head sculpt.

I scraped up the knees with sand paper and it gives a more realistic used look as it exsposed the tan underneath.

I dry brushed using a desert tan on the pouches both on the legs and webgear to tone down the brightness so they look liked they've been in the field and not walking out of the plane walking on the tarmac.

Also I found the bbi legs match up well as a replacement to the 21st Century CIA figure that come swith the Humvee. Just need to bore the hole out a tad. The legs that come with it look good, but function horribly. It's not permanant and the legs can easily be switched back.

For the price they are a great value on a modern looking troop. Nice touches on the figures Rick.

Working on some SEAL customs and was wondering if anyone would know if any of them would still use the MP5 or have they moved over to the M4 Carbine with a short barrel now?

I got a bunch of photos, and it seems the older ones are MP5's and newer the later.

Ok, well, I guess i'll be pulling off some pouches and fish through the pouch fodder. Ratts!

Is there a modern weapon that I could use the longer mp5 clip pouches on the Unimax Navy Seals in dark Green that they might use?

Hate to make you think so early on Sat KT.

Got a pic of the pouch in question?

You don't HAVE to arm him with the M4. ;)

I know I don't have to, but I want to be a little more accurate going forward now that I'm a little more edumicated on things.

I'm working on two seal versions. One using Unimax and the other Joes. The Joe version is meant to be more of a today or tad in the future.

Well, one of the Unimax SEALs came with a MP5, so there's that.

What I'd do is cut the magazine off of that M4 in the pic you just posted and glue on a stick mag. Say it's the Colt 9mm SMG.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colt_9mm_SMG

Do SEALS use it? No, but if you're gonna go for absolute accuracy your options are going to be limited.

Wow, you're good. Not sexy enough.

The SEALs in the boat. Is that a HK416? If so, is that something Maurauders will have. I haven't ordered from there yet, probably should.

The other two shots. What time frame would you say this is?

note the compass hanging from the web gear.

Think that's a section of pvc pipe for the sledge hammer?

I think the only SEALS using the 416 are DEVGRU. That looks like an M4 with a nifty buttstock on it. The MP5 pics are probably '07 or earlier.

Could be a length of PVC, there's a assault pack that carries the entry tools out there, too.

I noticed that the Targets in Kentucky got the "new" Bravo team stuff out at the first of January.

Rick- there's a good chance the ones in the boats are Marine Recon guys. Hard to tell these days with mix'n'match cammies among SF guys. More than likely, KT is right- it looks like an M4 with a VLTOR mod stock or something similar. The HK416 isn't all that noticeably different from a standard M4- it is a bit "fatter" and has the HK logo all over it, but the differences are internal, for the most part.

Ok, I'm wanting to do as recent as possible in cammo, weapons and so on, a couple MARSOC heros. Here are a couple pics of what I started. I can change the cammo I did if needed (what I was working on till I switched over to ST-6 I recently posted). It was my first attempt with the sponge. I've included some research images hoping I've D-Loaded the right branch of servicemen here.

Any guidance to which cammo is most recent would be wicked cool. I will do a Hasbro/JOE version also.

these would be great since the figs have that woodland cammo on them already(factory paint)

Is that a M203 grenade launcher all by itself on his ribcage? Also love the belt of grenade prjectiles.

I'll tell you those damn impressionists had me fooled for a while. Once I noted no sweat or worn looking gear I knew something was up. Old guys playing army. Doing a good job of it though.

Rick-

With the exception of the tan flight suit, all those cammo patterns are Marpat desert. Looks like the pics are at different stages of use and abuse- hence the different colors. Except for the third pic of the guy in Marpat- that has integrated kneepads- looks like it's from a brand that's outside the usual supply chain- only FBI HRT/SWAT/SF guys usually wear those. It's like 200 bucks per pair. I can't recall the brand name

Thanks Midget.

Hey, what's the deal with pants tucked in the boots. It seems older photos from Desert Storm and early on in this war soldiers would tuck the pant leg in the boot. The more recent images and stuff I see on TV and documentaries like Restrpo show guys wearing like normal pant legs. Special Forces always seem to have them out, but it seems like soldiers are too now.

Also what weapon is the Desert Tan Shock Trooper(built in knee pads) using. It looks like the one I have hanging on the custom figure. I added the grenade launcher and scope. Is it an HK and what service uses them.

Per Marine regs, boots are to be bloused- not tucked in- starting at second eye lace of the boot from the top using boot blousing bands. MarSOC guys tend not to do it for a variety of reasons. Usually because they're operating out of the water, and bloused trousers will carry water- it's heavy, trust me. I believe the Army tucks them in, although I'm not aware of their regs.

The guy in the kneepads is carrying an FN SCAR 16. It's chambered in 5.56 and uses the same mags as the M-16 series weapons. It looks very similar to the FN SCAR 17, which is chambered in 7.62 NATO and is the gun that came with PoC Beachead, and I believe Marauder's has one. The SCAR was in service trials with one of the Ranger Bats, but I believe it was dropped. I recall reading it was picked up by Naval Special Warfare Command, but I can't verify that.

More than likely the individual in the pic is a SEAL/PMC or just some goofball with a lot of cash. His load out looks legit though so if it is a goofball, he's got some cash.

Also, looking at the last pic- of the guys in the boat with the MarPat- looks like they're Navy- you can just make out the Petty Officer insignia on his left collar. Appears to be a PO 3rd or 2nd class- hard to tell from the pic. So it's very possible they're SEALs/UDT/some other sort of Navy guys that get special gear. Suppose they could even be SeaBees.

And again, thinking more about it, depending on the date of the pics, all of these could very well be SEALs. MarPat, when it first came out, was very popular among SF guys. The Navy used to wear whatever cammo pattern the Marines were wearing, till multi-cam came out. That seems to be en vogue now.

It's a dump pouch for empty mags after you're done shooting. Contrary to what Hollywood would have you believe, you have to retain control of those things- you start throwing them away, you're screwed.

I personally keep snacks in mine :D

Makes sense. I would imagine the last thing you want to worry about is whether you have 5 full mags or 6 if you put the empty ones back where they came from.

Well, usually, you put full mags in with the bottom facing up- all you feel is the smooth metal bottom of the mag. If it's empty, you put it bullet side up, so you feel the follower. But I personally don't remember/have time to do that in training, so I just throw the empty mags in the dump pouch. Makes things a lot faster and avoids confusion. Until I reach for my snacks and they've been crushed by empty magazines/stripper clips.

Thanks for all the info Midget.

Rick seems to ask all the same questions I want to...so I'll just let him lead, and follow along.
