I'm back again right into my next project....a scratch built 6 wheeled MRAP! So far I have the drivers cabin and the basic shape worked out.
Does anybody have any decent wheel ideas? The IFV wheels would be awesome but I do not have a spare one.
I am scratch building this bad boy from styrene and I learned a bit from my vamp/MRAP project. First, a razor blade will cause massive blood loss if you aren't paying attention. Second, I do not like the sight of blood. Third, plastic shavings will fly everywhere with a dremel

Anyways, I will post some pics of what I have so far when I get home later....

Looking good already. What's your technique... are you cutting the shapes with scissors ot are you using a knife, are you using glue to keep it all in place etc etc etc. Reason I'm asking is I have styrene & want to begin customising

Hi HJ,

I am using scissors to cut the larger pieces out and then go in with a xacto knife for the finer stuff. I am using .060" thick styrene. I am using Testors model glue to hold all together. There are also a few Legos in there to hold right angles and vertical surfaces stright(thank you Digler for the idea).

Now a question for you guys....does it look too long? Almost looks like a bus to me. I may have to cut out the section behind the driver and graft it to the rear compartment. What do you think?

A lot of the MRAPs are longer like buses. These are mostly used for the infantry to transport them into a certain area safely to strata dismounted patrol. The smaller ones like your vaMRAP are more for convoy security and armored escort duties.

If you score styrene, it breaks easily where you scored it even along curves...just make sure to hit the edges with something to take off the knife like edge the process creates...

Too long?...heck no!...once you get some height on top with a turret or whatever you might add, it'll all even out....you're just too used to looking at the four wheeled variant you made...

Updating the build. It's coming along. Had a few things set me back in real life so I am not where I would like to be with this yet. I got new wheels, added storage underneath, built up rear steps, and started the roof.

Stay tuned....

They are from those silly John Deere Monster Treads tractors. They are pretty much they only thing out there that I could find that would work.

Sorry I havent updated in quite some time. I didnt like the way I made the hatches open on the roof so I am trying different methods. If I find one I like I will post it up.

On a side note....I started my custom Sigma Six Dragonhawk into a Halo Falcon-like dropship. I will post pics of it when I get the chance. Its tough having two big projects at once.

OK, after a few fractured vertebrae, a couple surgeries, and a long-ass recovery, I am back. Starting up on this bad boy again. I have some pretty nice meds so I should be flying on this again soon. Updates coming!!!!
