DG Shipwreck - Old man of the sea?

On Monday I took the day off and in between sleeping I managed to watch the entire Jaws movie. The parts with Quint are among the best and it struck me how much he looks like the DG shipwreck.

So I got an idea...amongst giving him a bit of grey hair and a few harpoon weapons, how would it be to give him a peg leg?

Does that sound stupid in the Joe universe? Would a Military organization like Joe employ a man with a peg leg? Believe it or not I actually have a peg from one of those Pirates of the Carribean figures that I can make work. But before I do anything, I wanted to hear your thoughts...maybe there's something else I can do to him? I suppose I could give him a robotic leg but I don't think that "says" the same thing, you know?

Meh, he's my default Shipwreck. I painted the straps on his thighs and gave him a Duke harness for webgear. That's it.

The only thing I did to my second one was to swap out heads and paint some details, and add a life-preserver to make a non-robot-suit Deep Six.

It's such a great figure, at least to me, that I cringe at the thoughts of chopping off a leg. But it could be interesting? I wouldn't do it to your only one though. Wait a few days, the figure may grow on you.

A regular military organization probably wouldn't, but then the Joes employ a mute guy, so who's to say?

Just a headswap so far, but I did the same.

Great idea,

The thing I love about this figure is that he is esentially "Spy Island" Joe Colton, Which is how I use him as I try to build up my aventure team.

As far as the peg leg, modern "pegs look more like actual feet, but it might be fun to use the pegleg & strap a sneaker to it. :^)

A peg leg figure would be fun, but I wouldn't use him as Shipwreck.

For those who don't like the knee pads, you can swap out the knee pads from the DG Sniper, they match Shipwreck's pant legs, and the black knee pads look awesome on the Sniper.

I did the exact same thing. I also did the same thing for Snake Eyes and Stalker. Switched those puppies, and they look much better on the new figures, no painting required.

Oh I love this figure too, and I wouldn't have to alter his leg, I've got plenty of lower legs I can switch it out with. And thanks to my haul yesterday, I have two to play with.

True! And I figured a missing leg would make him that much more of a badass.

Yeah, I didn't want to go the modern prosthetic route, it wouldn't stick out. They just end up being covered with clothes anyway. I like the idea of the pegleg with sneaker on it...maybe it wouldn't even have to be a peg leg...maybe just some sort of pole with a foot attached to it. Or maybe a machinegun like that chick on Grindhouse, LOL!

The black uniform Trooper. It's based on the Sideshow Sniper, so I call the figure a sniper.

A peg leg (or any prosthesis of that magnitude) would all but disqualify him from combat arms service. Sea duty would most likely be no-go as well.

It would be an interesting custom to see, a post military life Shipwreck. Much like proper, weathering most Joe fans shy away from depicting the very real potential costs of combat in their customs.

I think it's a cool idea drop...I wouldn't see him in the field though...maybe relegated to ship duty only or pilot of some vehicle...or deck swabbing, just put a mop head on his peg leg :D

Shippy and Mara running a crabber in the Baltic, I can see it now.

I still say that even with a missing leg he could still mop the deck with half the Joe team.

I'm surprised I haven't seen a custom of that mermaid bitch yet. There must be at least one out there.

For some reason, the image isn't showing up proper, but here's the link to the archive image via Google:

There's got to be some blue bitch from Star Wars that someone could swap hands and a head with on the blue 25th Baroness and call it a damn day.

I've always thought the same thing...just never cared about Ships dream girl enough to bother trying to put one together...
