How Do You View your Gijoes and Cobras?

I know a lot of people enjoy going off of whatever universe they prefer, if it's the comics, cartoon, or whatever they read on the filecards (trash to me). It's kind of cool seeing how each member uses their figures and what not. But the question is, are your Gijoes members of an elite task force? A universal fighting force? Or the military's answer to the Village People?

In my little photo universe. Gijoe is just the name of a PMC designated force. Used as an answer to terrorist attacks and actions that the US military cannot have their names on. They rely on mostly state of the art weaponry and whatever vehicles they can use. They get the job done, no matter the sacrifices.

Cobra? They are actually a universal Terrorist group. They have hands everywhere, middle east, Russia, south America, anywhere someone says they hate the Government or anything similar, Cobra has a way of finding them. They also have a habit of taking over towns and cities from the inside. Some even think they have a sleeper agent high in each of the global hierarchies.

I've never really had a "joeverse", I've always just bought and displayed what I've wanted. If i like I'll buy it, and if not, I have no reason to get it. I don't need a reason to "try and make something work with my collection".

Mine is set firmly in the Cold War, so they're trolling the Reds (Be they Russians, Cambodians or North Vietnamese). Cobra is around, but it's like any other terrorist organization, only better led/organized.

Team members die, get kicked out and lose their shit, and they don't always win the day.

Shipwreck is totally a closet VP.

This ^^ is basically how I too view Conra...

My Joes, I like to think, have no connection to the US government at all, they have no one telling them what they can and cannot do...though they DO still have connections inside the gov to help both sides whenever needed, be it intel or equipment...I like to think of them more as the Punisher...they are a vigilante group who recruits the best, be it from the military or elsewhere, though most tend to have military backgrounds...but my Joes need to be able to operate without having to worry about rules or laws no matter where they are...they don't take prisoners...they kill if there is nothing to be gained...the scum they are taking down don't need to be locked up just to get freed thru loopholes in the legal system, and commit crimes once again...if the Joes are taking them down, they have done something worth being killed for...

I do like to think their backgrounds and skills are based closely on the file cards...and although they are a vigilante group, they function like a military group with a similar hierarchy, which is a no brainier considering most of their roots...

Funding?...lots of ways, but the one I find the most fun is that they are like Robin Hood...except they take from the criminals and organizations they cripple...they take their money and equipment and use it to bring down other criminals...upgrading it and repairning it along the way...

I can agree whole heartedly on the aspect of only buying figures that you know you will in fact use. I'm not gonna drop the cash for a 30th Sci-fi or Lifeline. I don't need them. Such as "techno- vipers or anything like that. Apparently they love having a Viper based around every needed aspect available, yet they are incredibly stupid. One of the reasons I'm so happy they decided to make the SHower troopers, (no more blue jump suits) and the Shock Trooper. Both are great figures for a modern terrorist force.

I have a total hodge-podge. While I like the portrayal in the comics better on some characters, I like the toon versions better on others. And still, there are many that never got fleshed out much in any medium, so I just look at the file cards and make up my own personalities.

I also like Joe being in the cold war post-'nam era, but I'm not afraid of having a little sci-fi creep in sometimes. I have no trouble with my Joes fighting commies, terrorist cobras, guerrillas in Sierra Gordo, or chasing after weather dominator parts. It really doesn't matter. Sometimes they die, but I don't bog down in continuity in my own universe, so next adventure they might be alive and well again. It's all a big "what if" so as a kid, I always did whatever suited me that day.

Ok so like, GI Joe is the code name for America's daring, highly trained special mission force or something, and it's purpose is to defend human freedom from Cobra, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world.

Does that sum up my head cannon enough for you?

This is more or less mine with influences from the cartoon/comic that I grew up with along with recent media influences and a dash of silly.
