Code Name: Nightingale

Yeah, that code name is about as original as a heavy machine-gunner custom packing an M134.

This custom started out as a rotary wing mechanic inspired by a post-Vietnam photo of a female mechanic, but after a while I felt she worked better as a MOS 3448/66H. I felt a support staff character that wasn't a green shirt would be a nice change of pace. I'm fairly pleased, though the head sculpt would shine in the hands of a better head painter.

She's a lot less complex (paint-wise) than I normally like on my customs, and definitely light on accessories, but I promise the next figure will make up for it.

I think that's what drove me towards nurse and not mechanic.

It doesn't fit her, it's all for show.

It's curled up at both ends, so it really doesn't look good on any figure.

I don't know man, I could complain about the eyes and all but really I don't think I could do any better. I notice that a lot of customs where people bought a head cast, and painted the whole thing, the eyes usually just don't come out right for some reason, so I'm not even sure if there is a way people can fix it. She definitely looks a lot better in the second pic than the first though, so maybe it's a weird camera angle thing. Everything from the neck down is great.

Could have called her Nurse Jane...

Jane was already taken. She's the supply clerk blowing Duke. Though I'm glad someone found a female Joe code name for a nurse even lazier than Nightingale. :D

Nothing I've tried seems to work. Eyes simply will not come out right for me. Paint simpy refuses to work on that part of the figure, and no amount of tutorials has remedied it for me.

Using really thin paint seems to help me. I also do a little bit of reverse painting. Paint the eye then touch up the skin around it. This really helps make painting eyelashes and eyebrows easier.

Whoa...

Talk about a thousand yard stare. :D

Hey KT...

If you paint the eyes black first, then paint in the white leaving a line of black at the top of the eye, it cuts down on the googly-eyes effect Obi's pointed out. :D

Hope that helps. You might already know that, but I thought I'd mention it just in case...

Yeah, I know about it, still doesn't work.

I might try it again in the near future, but I might just toss her in the "box of forgotten figures".

EDIT:

Tried "fixing" it with a micro pen, but something like A Clock Work Orange was all I could manage.

I'm relegating this one to the dust bin, as I simply do not have the desire to strip the head and redo ALL of the skintone work again.

Gonna see if I have these parts, slick combination.
And as far as the head is concerned looks Ok, seems battle weary.

Anyone seeing any Chap-Mei based Animal Planet sets at TrU that has the stethoscope on the parts tree?

Unless I'm mistaken, sticking a fork in a power outlet is less unpleasant than dealing with Broken Arrow.

Thanks all the same, however.

Yeah that's what I thought, but someone out there does have the damn thing. I'd like a couple as well, but don't want to pay that much to wait that long...

I may need to cruise the pink aisle and see if there is some Polly Pocket medical set.

I know Chap Mei did one, and there was one that was a vest accessory on one of their paramedics, but who's gonna find those anymore?
