Polishing a figure?

I purchased one of those new MU Iceman figures and took to cleaning off the silver markings on him with paint thinner. And of course this marred the finish. While it did melt it a tiny bit, it's more like it roughened up the finish. Is there any way to polish this back to a nicer finish? Novus maybe?

Has anyone tried to do this before?

The only thing I can think of is using a clear semi-gloss or gloss coat. Just make sure the surface is smoothed out before applying it.

Rubbing compound. You can find it in the automotive section at Target or Wal-Mart.

It's a very fine polish used for taking out minor scuffs in auto paint. It also polishes like nobody's bidness.

I've actually used it to buff out tampo art on figures and other rough patches. It's a high-count grit liquid sandpaper. Just apply it with an old t-shirt.

Does it have a specific name? I want to make sure I get the "right stuff". :)

Names vary with brands. Just ask someone for "rubbing compound". It may be called something like "scratch remover" or "clear coat polish" or something along those lines.

Meguiars is what I have, but I bought it for my actual car. I just happened to find out it works on removing fine sanding lines and for polishing plastic, too.

It also works amazingly well on, well, cars, too. ;)

I don't think I've ever waxed my present car...or washed it for that matter.

BRASSO is the same thing for polishing silver and such...usually available at most grocery stores.
