What to improve?
The black is very dark, especially for photos. Details are lost too. A very good alternative would be Tamiya's NATO black, which is a very dark grey - shade or two close to black. If you were to paint with the NATO black, then dry-brush with a slightly lighter grey, the details would really stand out much better.
Also... are you using the "flower", or close-up feature on your camera? If so, set the zoom to normal and move the camera closer. Direct overhead lighting might help too. Trying to get light from a room lamp or ceiling light isn't enough to illuminate the subject when it's farther away from the light source.
