I started casting items, using alumilite's quick set mould maker and natural colour plastic. So far so good. I assume a lot of members here cast items..so I wondered if anyone would know how well the mould makers from other companys work with alumilite plastic? The alumilite mould maker sets good and all but comes in such small containers and takes an eternity to dry...

If it makes any difference, I'm casting pouches for web gear and guns, essentially. Also some custom items like full rpg rounds, ammo for a custom soviet recoilless rifles, etc.

Since I'm on the topic, if anyone has the following I'm dying to get my hands on them to cast, but feel bad buying the figures I don't want (they end up in big dusty boxes of shit hasbro has messed up beyond redemption or is the 10000th incarnation of the same figure):

From http://www.yojoe.com/action/11/viper28.shtml , the automatic pistol, rocket launcher and rocket.

And from the 21st century toys eastern warrior #1, the pkm machine gun ( I ordered these from broken arrow toys and have since learnt I might as well have wiped my arse with the money I paid him, as I just won't get them, and if I do, it'll be in my will who it goes to as it won't be this century).

Obviously I wouldn't sell any of the reproductions, but I have to say, I have even more admiration for marauder John products when I see the items and really study them up close...the amount of detail is amazing.

Any tips from other members?

I wouldn't bother with the 21st PKM. It's way underscaled.

That "automatic pistol" is underscale too, and is supposed to represent a VSK-94 sniper rifle. I'd send my Panzerfaust 3, but I've modified the warhead so the plug acts as the stand-off explosive probe.

I've cast a few things here and there. Not much I can offer, use a good amount of mold release on your molds, run a toothpick through your resin after you pour it but before it sets to help release any trapped air bubbles in sharp detail areas..

That's all I can offer.

Lol, exactly what i was going to do with the panzerfaust-3 round! The vsk 94 is cool, was planning on using it on some figs that are a bit slender compared to gi joe style figs anyway. I have redone the vintorez to death now, even making sr-3ms with tactical grips from it.

I'm also looking at what rpg rounds I can make now, other than the standard and the ap head. Have you got a pic of your modded panzerfaust 3 round? I just want to see how it looks modded.

The pkm might be the only one we get for quite some time....so I just can't be picky right now. I hope hasbro accidentally makes the pecheneg or aek-999 for some weird new cobra figure. Is most of your stuff modern or ww2?

@dropshipbob that's for one piece moulds, no? How would you do that for two part moulds?

I can take one.

As for the PKM, should it have been in Marauder wave 6 over, say, the MP 40 or Type 85? Sure, but what can you do? There's not even a proper 1:18 non-vehicle mount M1919A4 and there were at least 4 companies that did WWII G.I.s

She's in need of a repaint.

I believe this might be a different warhead than the anti-ERA one.

Aaaaaaaand RPG warheads:

Cool, thanks. I was thinking of using styrene 2.4mm tube or rod for the same thing.

I imagine the decision for the mp 40 and type 95 is due to the need to appeal to gi joe fans, ww2 buffs, Indiana jones fans, etc as well as the niche buyers. For the type 95, it seems bullpups are popular these days for collectors. Not sure why... That and silencers, tac grips and sniper rifles. The last three I get. Used to be machine guns were all the rage, and ammo belts..

If I see another sniper custom with a .50 Barrett I'm gonna puke.

If they were gonna do a WWII automatic it should have been a FG 42, which, unlike the MP 40, is not well represented in 1:18. It may be that I'm just bitter that this was a perfecgt opportunity to get another 1:18 StG with grenade cup, ZF4 and ZG 1229 modular options.

The jungle viper figure or night viper would have been great chances to make the vampir. The last sniper rifle I made was an extremely lazy custom...I made vychlops with the mj sa-80 as the base and did some cutting and modding and added a big styrene silencer...

I'm amazed at how many barretts are needed in this scale... I have a Lahti ( jungle viper figure) on its way to me at the moment, but haven't seen it in person yet. Based on pics it may or may not have potential to be reworked... I like the full auto version, mounted for the aa role.

There are a lot of ak versions out there too now, yet no proper Pkm, drum mag pouch, ak chest rig, sa-7 or proper atgms. It's taken me ages to make kornet customs, so now I'm thinking of how I could simply have it in parts to cast easily. The new fire forget kornet looks like something hasbro would make for cobra though, so fingers crossed. The zu 23-2 would be an awesome modern/remake of the gi joe whirlwind!

The sniper talk also made me think of the missed chances at proper ghillie suits, god knows what that shit hasbro and lanard gave us was...

I repainted my L39 and added a bit of a charging handle and trigger guard. Very cool subjected added to a figure completely unsuited for it.

Zartan's VSS is my go-to for gun for Cobra nighttime clandestine operations. Quite a bit newer than the Vampir, I just wish it was more available. And I too wish there was something that could work for Russian web gear. At least one of the Retaliation[/i[ Snake Eyes figures looks to partially remedy that issue.

Working on a XM-21 with Sionics suppressor and a AN/PVS-2 Starlight scope currently. I don't mess with .50 cal "sniper" rifles.

Yeh I'm a big fan of the vss, I have cast quite a few in the short time I've been casting. I do like the pso-1 from the svd on it too, so have made some of those. I use a scope from an old gi joe gun for a so-so nspu-1 pn34, mounted on aks and Aksu's. Saiga12's would be good. Which snake eyes do you mean?

Sure, sounds good. I would just let you know first that I have just started casting, so if you are expecting marauder John quality, don't! Fancy selling them?
