I'm working on a rifle for a commission I have. I was wondering what people thought of the combos I put together with the new Marauder stuff. On the last one, I'm not sure I have the scope facing the right way...so let me know there too.

All three look good to me. The scope on the first one looks like an aimpoint 3-5x red dot sight, so that would be the right way for it. Are you sticking with black, or going to camo them up?

The first one has the peq laser sight with the socom scope. The second one is pretty clear. The last one has 'tactical' scope with the peq.

So, I have a question. Obviously, I'm not an expert in all the modular add-ons for modern rifles, so I was wondering if some one could explain the difference between a few of marauders pieces. I'd appreciate serious replies (I'm trying to learn at least)...and not 'well duuuh' replies that I know I'd get on other sites...

These three look very similar to me, though I know they're different...I don't know what it is.

Also, which way is front on the above one and the one below.

Now, for the PEQ, it is integrated with an additional scope, correct?

The hell is this thing?

Gonna leave this to Midget, he knows what all the faggoty shit you can add on to a M4 is.

I want to say the wide end on number 4 goes toward where you're shooting. I think the last one is just another form of relex/red dot sight. 3 almost looks like a peep sight.

Reflex sights always go on top, unless there's some kind of Spetsnaz combat shooting that I'm unaware of that mounts them on the bottom. :D

A target laser would be mounted elswhere.

This one is an Eotech, the larger end goes towards the shooter's eye.

This one looks like another type of holographic sight. Specifically one made by Mako The tall end also goes towards the shooter's eye.

This one... I have no idea. It looks kind of like a holographic sight... but it could also be a laser designator... I really don't know.

This could be either a red-dot scope with magnifyer or a traditional rifle scope. If it's a red-dot with magnifyer, the big end would go towards the shooter's eye. If it's a traditional rifle scope, it's opposite. This one specifically looks like a Trijicon Accupoint 1-4x24 rifle scope- eye goes towards the fat end of the tube:

PEQ doesn't have to be integrated with anything- it has lasers in both the visable and NVG ranges- I had one on my M-4 with ACOG, and never used the damn thing. Not even sure if it worked, to tell you the truth. Most of the time, if you're using it, it's coupled with NVGs or a NVG scope.

That little guy right there is a red dot scope, no magnifyer. It's just a hollow tube that has a red dot used as a point-of-aim reference.

This one... I have no idea. It looks a little large to be a holographic sight... but again, if I had to guess, I would say the large end goes towards the shooter's eye.

It's a bit smaller (in hand) than the top holo scope.

This one is listed as 'SOCOM scope'...if that helps. Doubt it though.

So it's more or less useless and pointless. Gotcha.

I wouldn't say useless, just replaces (kinda) the iron sights.

Oh, ok. I thought the pics were to scale... in that case it's definitly another brand of holo sight. Big end towards the eye, usually. There are always exceptions though.

Oh, it's probably the Trijicon then, they have the contract for most optics used by the US Military. They make the ACOG too. Randomly, though, some units were issued the Eotech holo sights. It's not standardized across the board.

So it's more or less useless and pointless. Gotcha.

I wouldn't call it pointless.. Infantry and SF guys probably use it all the time... I'm not either of those things, so to me it's just added weight. Kind of like a M203 looks badass, but in practice, gets heavy and just makes your rifle clunky. But I'm sure it's a God-send when you need it.

The Marines, at least post- 9/11, made use of all those taxpayer dollars and issued a ton of shit to all units- even stuff that are generally niche devices, like the PEQ-2. Generally speaking, only an NCO or Officer (or both) really NEEDS them in a platoon. But everybody has them.

Huh. All very interesting points and facts.

I appreciate it.

I'll probably add more questions here as they come up.

HAHAHAHA... yeah, they're expensive.
I have an Eotech+magnifyer on my AR... that was about as expensive as I'm willing to go on my optics right now. Aimpoint RDS aren't too bad... Trijicon is kind of the big boy on the block right now because the military uses them. I like my issued ACOG, but not 1k like it...

I wonder how the Zeiss ZO 4x30i stacks up to the ACOG? Same damn price range (800-1K), but that Zeiss shit is supposed to be gooooooooood.

The Zeiss is supposed to be pretty good. I get a decent discount from them through work. It actually brings it down just under 1k. Maybe after I get my first two payechecks after promotion, I'll pick one up. See if I can shoot a dime at 100 yards. ;)

^^^indeed.

Here's a free one. Chain guns and rotary cannons are not the same thing, despite what Doom and Joe collector's may tell you.

Don't care much about the Bradley… do like the LV-25 though. Would have liked the new EFV, if they hadn't cancelled it. That was a dumb move.

Oh yeah. That's the Marauder Scar mag. I honestly don't like the look of the mag that comes with the rifle.
