With a tripod like NSA suggested, also make use of the timer function on your camera as well. It will help cut down on any minor movements and will go a long way in helping with cleaner pictures. The tiniest twitch will cause a whole lot of blur.

Most of those are looking really good...black figures are just a pain all around to photograph...the glare from the gloss of the plastic creates bright white spots, and detail is difficult to make out...that's why it works best to dry brush with either a grey or tan/brown if you want to give a dusty/dirty appearance...then top coat it with testors dull coat to drop that sheen way down from the gloss on the plastic...

I say testors specifically as it has been proven to not react with other paints or the plastic of the figures...

The timer was a great suggestion X...

the best camera i have is on my mobile. i have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and none other camera(so far)...

One of the best suggestions anyone can make is to save up and get a camera. Camera phones are a great convenience, but I know from experience, they only do so much and when dealing with action figures, they aren't going to provide you with the best results.

Definitely keep practicing with what you have now, but save up money for a camera that will give you all the options you need to take the best pictures you can. It doesn't take much. I think I spent $100 total on my Nikon Coolpix 9050, and it's the best 100 bucks I've spent.

Behind a camera watching you!
If you are using a light box or display area (Like in your set up) control the ambiant light as much as possible. Outdoor shots this is almost impossible.

I like to avoid using a flash if possible. (Not always possible)

Definatly get a tripod. This will be essential if you ever want to animate stuff.

Camera phones are OK, but you can see a real difference when compared to a camera. I had no idea how bad some of my shots were until I upgraded to an LSR camera. Litterly a night & day difference.

Most importantly have fun, don't be afraid to try new things, places or ideas.

Much Improved. Not to sound presumptuous, but you should make sure the lens is good and clean. Also check the focus settings on the camera and use the Macro setting if it has one.

Take it from me, I used to suck big ones when it came to taking pictures. It just takes time.
