It started as an idea because I hated the USS FLAGG as it was nothing more than a shelf. It could not be moved without difficulty and there was no lower deck area and it was small. This is the latest design that ran through my head because I just wanted to see if it could be done and it can. This version of the USS FLAGG can be rolled anywhere, it still needs to be painted and bolts and other accessories applied. But, it has a lower deck area for play/storage, the flight deck is wide enough to allow for at least three kids to play launch and recover. The old FLAGG playset island is still a good idea but I will make foamboard panels to cover and be removed for play as well as the lower deck. There will be tie downs for the flight deck aircraft. Not sure how, but rubber bands and hooks will come into play as the sea of asphalt and cement is rough seagoing for this vessel.

I know she doesn't look all that pretty right now and I cant even compare myself to some of the talent that I know is on this forum. But I like ideas and potentials. It may not be the prettiest or the most detailed, but I believe some ideas have merit. Even if nothing comes of it, I know at least that it went from an idea, to paper, to reality.

I have the bow and stern pieces, and Im working on making turret stations that attatch to the flight deck. The lower deck will be done in white, it will have the cabinet press on/press off lights. The crane is flimsy so Ill be securing that to the deck. Someone had used id badge holders on that reel for catch lines, seemed pretty cool. Exterior panels will be made to attatch to Velcro pads in order to cover when not in use or for more complete look. Rubber bands and screw hooks in the flight deck will be used to secure aircraft during maneuvers.

That'll be really neat once finished. I assume something will run the length underneath the deck to add support? Looks like it would have the potential to bow if not.

Havent decided to either put two braces there or to just run a 2x8 and make it bolted to the table. I know the wood will eventually warp if I don't, thanks for the heads up tho. I was thinking of what else I could add to the flight deck to make it fun and interactive.

Honestly, it threw me as well. Its not enough just to have a flight deck and an island. Even if I shave her down a bit, I stll would want to see an enjoyable BIG ship that may be a toy version of the carrier but carry at least 4-5 planes. Plenty of room for friends to launch and recover their own jets as well as play in the lower decks and inside the island.

My dad used to make us big versions and more functional versions than the actual toys. We loved them and played with them constantly.
