Alternate views of my prospective banner entries.
Here's a behind-the-scenes look.
As you can see, what's in the pics is pretty much all I set up. A halogen work lamp is the sun (not needed if the actual sun is out
), and a small pile of sand is the entire desert. A wide paintbrush (below pic, bottom right) came in handy for moving the sand aroud and smoothing its surface.
I sprinkled on some model railway ground foam for greenery.
I found a 100ft roll of sky-blue disposable plastic tablecloth at a party store, along with a 2x6ft folding plastic table.
I folded down our wall-mounted clothesline frame, then just pegged the blue sheet to it. Or, I could have just duct-taped the sheet to the wall.
It turned out to be a bit too wrinkly, so I just put a piece of light blue cardboard on it.
I used my phone camera to take the photos. All I did was set the white balance to Cloudy and turn the exposure up a bit. Nothing fancy.
I just added the Photoshopped background in the top pic to add more depth to the scene, although it's not really necessary.
Total time to set up, take about 30 photos, then put everything away - 2 hours.
Now all you people have no excuse. Get off your asses and create something!
