Ok... so I've been bitten by the "building bug" after seeing various creations from people here, most specifically Med (seeing his stuff in person was key).

Anyway, I've started with building #1. No rhyme, no reason... just an office building of sorts, with plenty of other designs down the pipe. Not quite finished, but wanted to show you guys what I've come up with so far.

UPDATE: 09/06

Got some weathering and some minor detailing done today -

Looks really sharp!

I need to figure out how to get clean cuts like that. I even have a (cheap) foam cutter and I can either get straight cuts or clean ones, but not both.

If anyone knows where to get 1/2in foam, let me know. The smallest I can find is 3/4in at my local HD or Lowes.

That looks awesome! You can find the pink stuff in 1/2", that's what I used for my tutorial. You just may need to call around, since not all Home Depots carry the same stuff.

I live in the SF Bay area, so they don't actually use foam insulation due to the mild temperature, so I had to call around and only two stores in the whole area seemed to even carry it. And you'll get it in giant boards, so that you'll have to either cut them down yourself, or have them cut them down there.

As luck would have it, the guys at my store were dicks, so I had to bring my own box cutter to hack it down to size to even fit it in my car. But it's not too pricy, only about $15 or so for a pretty large sheet of it.

Eventually I want to attempt terrain like a mountainside, and the 2" stuff would REALL come in handy for sculpting at that scale. Although you'd probably need a hot wire to cut it very efficiently.

(And Fogger, just do battle damaged buildings, and skip the clean edges!) ;)

looks outstanding bro. Thats gonna make for some serious photo ops. My 2 local Lowes only have the 1" right now, they did have 1/2 and 3/4 in the past and have a slot for them so when/if they come in stock I'll let ya know bro.

Med - When you're right, you're right.

Like I said, I didn't really have a plan for this. Just started cutting and gluing... made it up as I went along. Because of that though, it kinda forced me to only use what I had on hand. So this building obviously uses very "basic" 90° angles, since I only used one 2' x 8' sheet.

I should be more or less finished this week, and then it's on to the next.

Btw - no interior for now, but roof and floors are removeable for later detailing.

If you go in the cake decorating section at michales they have some AWESOME pillars in a few different lengths that could be useful...or you can find them all over online..."cake pillars"

I have "wedding cake pillars", but they're not appropriate for this particular building.

That's looking great. A fire escape or something up the side would be an awesome undertaking, but worth it. Hell, even a ladder or something. You could shoot some cool black ops escape/entry shots.
