So I made this a while ago and he was in a few older pics I am sure I posted...but the other day I got an Outback headcast from Jesse and Rick said he had never been able to get an Outback. I told him I likely had an extra I would send him. Well, I didn't - I did not realize how "rare" he is...I had the NF one in my fodder box I knew, but forgot I popped the head for this custom. ANYWAY- I decided I needed to get better at painting headcasts anyway so I may as well paint up Outback and send Rick the factory one like I said I would. I still need some work as I am no where near some people's skill level (ahem, FLED, ahem) but way better than I used to be...so enjoy my version of Outback.

I cut a PoC Stalker and a Renegade Duke each in 1/2 and glued them together - then swapped lower arms with Duke as well. Jungle Duke webgear with added elastic for a flashlight on his left hip and a back backpack. Marauder weapon with sling from black athletic tape and TofuJesse headcast...

before headswap

and after

I know I still have work to do...I am practicing and looking for the magnifying headband Fled mentioned as well. Here are some practice sculpts:

Painting eyes on those little bastards is tricky, not a bad start at all! what are you using to put the black on the eye? I know some use a toothpick, I using this small ball point sculpting tool, makes it easier to make the pupil more of a "1/2 circle" leaving the white below. Also i always do the left eye first, as I'm right handed. I read somewhere that you should always start on the opposite side of your natural inclination/bias because it'll be easier to match

Liking the part choices, works well for OB!

Man, that OB looks really cool Slay!...the eyes don't look too bad, but like Mswi pointed out, getting the white below the pupil is key...and if you can, try and get the beard painted closer to the skin, then give the hair a wash or drybrushing...at that point it'll look better than stock...

FYI, I suck major balls at painting eyes...I have TONS of head casts I've avoided painting for that very reason

Toothpick it was indeed. I tried to get the white under as well. I think I painted them at least 3 or 4 times...

Thanks for the tips. I don't own sculpting tools...most of my sculpting hasn't required any (more filling than sculpting)

I debated on the drywash / drybrush hair...but those steps end up ruining the other stuff I have done...I didn't want to wash his face so much...I did use a flat "sealer" to bring down the shine.

What do you mean about the beard closer to the skin? I think you mean entend the orange areas up more towards the cheekbone as in the top pic you can see where the skintone paint sort of pooled a bit where the beard and cheek meet...

It amazing how many little things are shown in close up pictures...

I do like it better than the Hasbro one already...

Looks good. Eyes are the toughest thing to paint. I tend to employ a bit of reverse painting when painting them. I paint the eyes then outline them with the flesh tone. I have a #1 water color brush, that has a very fine point, I use.
