Ya know nacho, the MU line might make a 1:18 custom MOTU line a bit easier...heads and gear will be the hard part...

Good point, since the castle seems to be in 1/18 Scale regarding the practical use of the Jaw Bridge alone.

@ Dark Horse, thanks for posting the interview. I agree with your statements on the incredible shrinking castle. Mattel really should be ashamed, given how much quality comes from Hasbro in exchange for the dollar. Technically speaking, we could buy 2 newly released AT-AT's at Toys R Us for the same price as the deflated castle. Think about that comparison in terms of design, plastic, electronics, detail and moving parts.

@ Nacho, yes, Mattel's reps are basically reducing themselves down to Used Car Salesman sleaze, and it is truly terrible to see them lash out at people for communicating their concern over Mattel's false advertising and misleading marketing. It's really a shame, since it doesn't have to be this way. I have had my gripes about Hasbro from time to time, but at least Hasbro's reps aren't as hostile, rude and immature about their relationships with the customers. Hell, Hasbro has delivered the goods several times for an otherwise unknown toy-line, and they did so on a mass-produced scale. The Skystriker, Water Moccasin, SNAKE Armor, Ferret, VAMP, Stinger, Tomahawk and other vehicles are testament to this. I honestly think it is fair to compare the 80's GI Joe line to the MOTU line because both lines are limited in terms of popularity and appeal. Hasbro gave us a lot of things we wanted at reasonable prices, whereas Mattel gives us what we want at considerably reduced quantities, quality control issues, horrible customer service and a rude attitude when questioned about it. If it weren't for the popularity of Barbie and Hot Wheels, Mattel would have died years ago. But for Mattel to arrogantly mistreat their smaller line customers like this is truly disgraceful and wrong.

Absolutely. SDS had a ton of MOTU sculpts that Angel Forge now carries. Heads for He-Man, Skeletor, Beast Man, Mer Man, Tri-Clops, Trapjaw, Evil Lyn, Man At Arms, Teela, Sorceress, Webstor, Hordak, and She-Ra.... and that's just the ones I can think of. Then they also carry Man at Arms, Skeletor, and Teela/Evil Lyn torsos. Plus they have a set of legs that perfectly mirror the boot/sandals that 85% of MOTU figures wear. I've got piles of parts. That's the beauty of MOTU.... the parts reuse is stunning.

Couple all that with some Joe, SW, and MU donor parts, and I plan to have a full lineup. I've even planned some of the vehicles. So for me, the Castle Truckster will likely work ok still. I just have to convince myself that I'm still willing to shell out $300 for it.

This whole interview could be summed up thusly:

"None of your whiny complaints have a snowball's chance of making it into the final product, and we are likely going to cut costs and make it even crappier. Suck it!"

......Whiskey.Tango.Foxtrot.

The fact that they are cutting items sucks. A lot. Are there any "crucial" items though that was shown?

I'm not following this closely, but it still pains me to see something so awesome get whittled away by fucking accountants. This always happens with stuff I work on. You design something, then it gets slowly chopped away until it's something else entirely, and usually shitty.

I wouldn't mind them scaling back if they scaled back what it was going to cost. But to sell something and slowly take it away piece by piece while charging full price seems... criminal. If this was anything but a niche toy product, there would be news stories and consumer advocate groups raising hell.

If you preordered a new BluRay 3D 4K player and over the course of a year they decided it would be 1080p, then 2D, and they would need to save money by not providing a remote, everyone would give them the finger. But because there are no CG alternatives, they can treat everyone like fucktard ATMs and get away with it.

My $30 200X castle arrived today. I forgot how big this is. If I put it on a two inch base like the new one, it would be the same size.

I also opened my misb Battle station and attached it to the back. It is awesome. So for $50, I have a three sided CG with more features, accessories, lights/ sounds (these are actually awesome), add on parts, and mini vehicles (which, btw are friggin' sweet - especially the battering ram!)

Saved me $200, which will just about pay for my Castle of Power.

I'd like to take this moment to thank TG for pointing me in the right direction (away from his crappy shrinking miniature castle of lies).

Me and my friend played with my 200X CG compound for four hours earlier and it was time well spent!

Also got Ram man, Jitsu, Vykron and Mer Man today. lots of MotUC goodness!

Nah. Adam is gay. I only have the 200X version because I got him with the castle. I'm gonna sell him. Funny thing is, he's quite a rare figure. I only paid $30 for the Castle. It wouldn't surprise me if I got that back for Adam by himself lol.

I don't like the front face of the skull... It's a tad strange looking. The rest is pretty awesome, though.

You thinking about painting more detail on the face? I think if it were green and not silver/gray, it would look better. And with more highlights/lowlights to draw out the sculpting a little better.

That fucking idiot TG should just crawl back under his rock. There is literally no point in him making that vid, apart from using it as an excuse to put himself in front of the camera.

"It's almost 7 inches high" which means it'll be just over 6 inches etc, and the same for the rest of his approximate measurements. Also, notice the way the camera is slanted to make it look bigger? And the parapets removed from the 200X castle to make it look smaller?
More absolute lies from this worm-cunt subhuman cockmaster.
If you added the base to the vintage version, they are the same height. What a fucking joke!

Now look at Zombihamma's castle -

I've just been emailing Zombihama about getting one of his Castles of power. Mattel can go and fuck themselves. They had another opportunity to print money and make CG a smash success. Yet again they fuck everything up through lies, greed and that little that little worthless uncharismatic spit-fuck, Scott Shite-Lick.

The new castle is looking better and better to me, and not because of anything Scott has said or done. The sculpt is really drawing me in as I've always loved the design in the original mini comics

Now if Zombihama could make a larger one of the new castle.. I'd get that for display for sure but damn... I'm really liking this design

If they really are considering lowering the jaw bridge into the base for more "headroom" I don't think that would be a bad idea really. Just a quick photoshop I did just to get the idea. it would add roughly an inch and I dont' think it would look too bad

Aren't the new and old CG the same basic design, just one is larger and has sharper crisper more defined details and sculpt work?

Well, yes and no.

here's the prototype that became the original castle playset

and as the castle appeared in one of the first mini comics

This was the only mini comic I had for years and it of course was my favorite so I am partial to the castle design with the odd shelf and the pawn piece on the skulls head.

Here's the box art for the original playset

My parents still have the CG box in our attic. It's totally water-damaged and discolored by now and beat to shit, but I saw the corner of it when I was getting boxes down to wrap gifts in this past Christmas. Made me happy and sad at the same time. It's gotta have wreaths or something in it, the castle is out in our storage building.

Man I loved that thing. Besides the Ghostbusters firehouse and Cat's Lair, those were probably my favorite non-Joe playsets as a kid. They're still great designs.

Thank you for keeping this thread alive and well, Gentlemen.

@ Dark Horse, I like that your collection is growing. Tri-Klops is also one of my favorites from the line.

@ Akunin, thanks for posting the original artwork, as I had never seen that before in high resolution.

Nice! I actually have Man-E-Faces posed at the Castle radio/communication post. I put the Skeletor "face" on, as though to simulate Man-E-Faces speaking to the enemy via radio as Skeletor. Faces is relaying false information in order to lead them into an ambush led by He-Man.

So this is a silly question since I haven't seen the cartoon or comics in years... But who exactly is in charge of the Castle? Why is Skeletor on the box art? In my memory, it exchanged sides several times, kinda like France :)

as I understand it, originally it was going to be the evil lair.. Skeletors hang out before he was known as Skeletor. Basically He-man (Conan) was to take the castle for himself unsurping Skeletor. I'll have to google it but it sounded a great deal like a Conan novel to me when I first read that. But according to the MiniComics it was Skeletor always wanting the power and He-man content chilling in his hut down the road.

and the official front with cheesy kid on it... I always hated that kid. He had a castle before I did.

And then Filmation turned it into?

Seems a tad like they had no idea what they wanted to do, then retconned it to fuck. That box art looks like it's the evil lair and He-Man and crew are comin' to whoop ass.

In the mini-comics, it was simply a place of great power and mysterious technology. The green goddess tasked He-Man with protecting it from evil that would try to possess it, but in those early days nobody actually lived there. That was pre-sorceress.

Then the sorceress lived there and we got the Tale of Teela origin. Both worked ok for me, but Skeletor never lived there. He might have conquered it a time or two, but he was always quickly evicted by the Masters.

Hey, don't forget the other Castle Grayskull made by the Four Horsemen! The mini statue! Granted this one is only 9.75" H x 9" W x 11" but shows the whole thing!

This little beauty will set you back about a $100 (depending where you shop of course)

The original art had a mixture of good guys and bad guys solely because Mattel didn't tell Rudy Obrero who the fuck was who. They just told him to go nuts, and he did :)

Have a look at the He Man/ Battle cat art lol, Skeletor and Beast man riding Battle cats... dafuq?
