clean and crisp works for them though. Sometimes a good clean look is more menacing, like Stormtroopers or the police with gas masks in Christian Bale's Equilibrium. These guys remind me of the cops from Equilibrium just with a touch of grey.

I'm annoyed at the shitty pics, though. I used to be able to take awesome pics with my 12MP phone camera. I guess it's been dropped too many times...

OK, so here's how I did my banner entry:

Balcony made of cardboard and craft sticks, quickly thrown together with a crapload of tape on the hidden side. Plain white cardboard backdrop. The "scaffolding" at the top is an old ladder I made a while back, out of craft sticks and toothpicks.


Backlit, with my kitbashed Somali figure in place.


BBI Blackhawk on a plain backdrop of big white cardboard sheets (and a roll of paper towels for a stand).


Combined in Photoshop with smoke effects, background building flats, spinning rotors, and hand-drawn RPG round.



Here's the movie scene I was trying to emulate. Close enough is good enough for me. :)

Well, I wouldn't say "simple". :D

I took about 8 shots of the balcony setup and about 15 shots of the chopper just to get one or two usable pics.

I suppose the final shot is doable "in camera" with little or no post-processing, but I have neither the space, equipment, or time to even attempt it. :)

I replaced Janine's poorly-articulated Mattel body with an aftermarket one from Zica Toys, and the difference in poseability, balance, and expressiveness is like night and day.



No stand or Blu-tac under the foot to keep upright - it's all her.

What do you mean? That is Aerith, in her Crisis Core iteration. :)
I was outbid on a Tifa figure too, so I'm on the hunt for another one (that doesn't cost an arm and a leg).

And yeah, it's spelled Aerith (with a "th", to sound similar to "Earth"), confirmed by Square Enix. Early English translations of the game misspelled her name. :)
