Since these seem to still be available relatively cheaply on the innertubes, I am using this thread as a catch-all to what can be done to modernize / customize them.

Here is Peruvian one mounted with a crane (looks like they got them from Israel)

I'd just paint an M16 to match the AO it was supposed to be in.

Maybe add some armor plate or ERA bricks?

Cast the front wheel or scavenge a set from the WC57 Dodge command car or WC63 1.5 ton weapons carrier.

Hell, just get one of those and do a gun truck conversion!

Have you seen the eBay prices for those things! Haha they're freaking expensive.. no idea why either. Always like $70 or something ridiculous.

May need to look into that casting idea. Could use a bunch of wheels..

Doesn't one of them break in a stiff wind? There should be buckets of broken ones begging to be repurposed.

Thats pretty cool ^ What's the gun from?

Generally I'm trying to make them more feasible for use in a Cold War / Modern setting, since WWII stuff isn't my specialty.

Thanks .

I built it from scratch, check out the small scale post.

Like I said, with the right paint and markings anything can be made to fit. Hell, they're still using pre-WWI arms in some spots.

Got a JSI version of the M16 MGMC this week and opened it up tonight to compare it to the original 21st version..

Well the damn Quad-.50 STILL doesn't rotate properly. You'd think they could have fixed that one tiny little issue.. but no.

Otherwise it seems pretty identical, right down to the painted on #'s. I did notice that the JSI version was noticeably less polished on some of the corners and small details. The doors don't close right/as tight as the 21st version. One of the guns on the Quad-.50 wasn't glued on very well and popped off right away.

Paint job is slightly different, and the markings are changed a little bit.. but overall it's the same thing.

It looks like it's retailing for $50 online.. bah. Got it on eBay for $25, which is about what I feel it's worth.

Can we assume a M16 will not be showing up in the purge thread?

Got some rear wheels paired on one.. not as well as I'd of liked, but I'm dealing with crap I have lying around so...

Trying to decide if I want to try and mimic a more M35-esque look or just go with a M3/M16 Guntruck look. Got the JSI one to see if it would work any better for my needs, and really it seems like it'd be worse if anything.

Not sure how the Bravo Team one would fair.. it's missing a lot of the little details.

Yes, but the quad mount rotates like it's suppposed to. ;)

Refresh my memory, what exactly is the issue on the 21st? Bed just too narrow to allow the quad to rotate?

Well I guess there were a couple of different versions of the M16 MGMC.. the M16, A1, and A2.

The regular M16 was a purpose built AA vehicle, but the A1 and A2 were regular M3 personel carriers converted for AA purposes.

I am not sure which is which, but I think the regular AA-built M16 looked like this:

It had flip down armored sides, so the gun could rotate 360°. I assume they flipped them up when travelling etc.

The A1 and A2 came from regular M3's so they didn't have the flip down sides, I don't know if they mounted the Quad-.50 higher or what. I've seen some like this:

Some with notches carved out, and some with the flip down sides installed.

Looks like the 21st/JSI one is specifically named the M16A1 MGMC.. and it has the rear door, which is correct for the A1, but for some reason they didn't do whatever was needed to get the gun to actually MOVE.

The Bravo Team one is clearly a standard M16:

It has the flip down sides AND notch (sides do NOT flip down, but I assume the notch lets it rotate), but is missing the rear door access and stowage racks. I also don't think the little window covers move. On the 21st/JSI they all move/flip up/open & close etc.

Finally snagged a couple of these at not terrible prices.. will see what I can do with them, they look promising (WC63) though.

Kinda petered out on the halftrack conversion, can't quite figure out what to do besides paint it and throw guns on it lol

Up-armor package?

Because those things make Bradleys look like the Abrams in the armor department.

Which one has the most accurate Quad .50? I've been considering getting one of these, but I only want the Quad .50 mount and not the truck. If I ever get around to doing a 1:18 Vietnam firebase, it'd be a very cool addition.

Yeah definitely. The rear would look fine, the front just looks so dated (since it is) but I don't feel like doing a whole redesign I don't think.

Blah. I grafted some wheels to the rear and it looks alright I guess.. but it's sitting in the "someday" pile.

I don't know if the Unimax one is removable or not, but the JSI/21st one does come off the base for use elsewhere. I assume the Quad-.50 trailer would be the same.

Detail wise, I haven't see the Unimax one in person, but I'd generally defer to JSI/21st for detail.

If you're just looking for the Quad-.50 for base usage, try and track down the M17 trailer..

Pics of the .30 with a ME Joe? :D

I'd figure out a way to do a twin .50 mount and then load it with ammo cans and crates. Gun truck conversion, as it were.

Then I might up-armor the cab.

Or do a zombie apocalypse vehicle-mobile home.

Wonder if the rear axles/wheels form the Indiana Jones-type troop truck would work to make this a 6 x 6? Just a thought in my noggin.

Will take a picture.. I'm amazing with all of google there is no photos with a figure actually manning the gun..

Looks like it comes with two.

I snagged some wheels from a HMMWV and it looks roughly to scale for a 6x6. The front tires are thinner but taller, but there is no easy way to replace those I don't think.
