I like both of the sets and am quite happy I bought them. I didn't like Mercer at all in the pics, but once I got him he has become a favorite of mine.

Nope he does not. But Road Pig, Zandar, and Gnawgahyde are awesome. Thrasher is good once you add a belt, I recommend one from Copperhead, or one from a Skrull. That one will need painted.

I liked the Marauder set, good for getting Spirit and Low Light if you didn't get the PoC versions. Falcon is heaps better than the downs syndrom comic pack, colours aside (I don't mind them). BBQ is heaps better than his 25th version, dem Airtight limbs. Blah blah blah.
Just give them some paint washes on the cloths and skin, give them some vests and they'll be right.

One's contentment with the Marauders set depends entirely on the extent to which one requires that the figures serve as faithful recreations of their vintage counterparts.
If you remove some of the heads from the context of the '80s characters they ostensibly represent, you might be surprised at the quality of the sculpts.
Here are a few of the kitbashes I created using Marauder heads:
Falcon's head is great, but it's difficult to tell when it resides on the awkward Falcon body (which is admittedly a vast improvement over the 25th Anniversary Falcon, which might be the worst G.I. Joe figure of the past ten years).
If anything, Red Dog's head is even more impressive than Falcon's, but his marauder body utilizes the unattractive Bazooka body, and therefore few people realize how great the head looks.
...but if you're looking to recreate the Joe collection you had when you were a lad, I don't suppose any of this is particularly helpful.

I used my Red Dog head for Benchpress. Looks much better than the Clutch repaint. Mercer I changed up a little as I gave him a POC Viper body and the Marauder Low Light vest.

I registered, then somehow forgot I had registered... I think I decided that, having spammed the hell out of HISS Tank with my photos, it would be self-indulgent to do so here.
Whatever the case, today I conducted a google image search that led me here, and I was surprised to see that the forum was addressing me by name... and notifying me I had four visitor messages from several months ago.
All I can say in my defense is that I was working graveyard shift in April.
