Really depends on what you're looking for.

Gear is pretty much identical, as far as I can tell (ignoring the nonsensical thing that Ret. SS comes with). Renegades has the Renegades head and sash, Retaliation is more ARAH-accurate.

The Retaliation one should be far easier to come by at this point, so there's that.

Such a tough call. Renegades screams more ninja like, and like Fog said, Retaliation is very accurate. I like them both but like the retaliation more. Articulation is different at ankles but think that's the only difference there. Retaliation has Rocker ankles and can be posed better.

Yeah.. I think if you're looking for something that harkens back to '84, Retaliation "Ultimate" SS is the way to go. But they're both stacked with gear and both look great for ninjas.

Thanks. I have Renegades still MOC and a Ret one on the way...thinking of using the renegades version as fodder to attempt to recreate the sideshow (i think) 1:6 scale SS I have been seeing pics of...Then those 2 plus the 30th SE and Ultimate SE will allow me to have my favorite versions of both and I can sell of the rest or use for fodder. :D

I'm considering making a v2 Storm shadow with an extra retaliation ss and the Renegades one. Thing is, the rarity of the renegades one kinda shuns me away.

If you don't mind painting some. Could just get the Dollar General Ice cream one and black/white snow one (for white shoulder pegs) and combine them. Bet both are cheaper than one Renegades.

yeah, but the ice cream one is white with Orange paint, I think the shoulder pegs are orange though, that's one reason I brought up the black one, it has white pegs, So take the Ice cream one, strip the orange, change pegs at shoulders with the pegs from the black one. Than just would need to give a white head. Use the Black ones feet too. Guarantee buying those two is waaaaaay cheaper than 1 Renegades.

I was asking because I now have both (Ret. SS is still on it's card) and I was just wondering what all of you thought.

Great idea.

I bought an "Ice cream" one as I couldn't face using a Renegade SS for a custom. I'd hoped that the "ice cream" would be the same colour as the Ren one as it would have matched the other parts (ROC SnowJob) perfectly.

The orange shoulder pegs and lower legs also limited other uses. I'm going to use your idea of getting an original DG figure for the shoulder pegs and lower legs. I'll then make a Ren SS figure out of those DG parts and use the actual Ren SS parts for my custom.

Well I have opened "Ultimate" Storm Shadow and I'll say that quality wise, Renegades Stormy is by far superior. Better paints, better materials. I gotta say cheapness of the new figures really has put me off. I find my self wishing I had spent the money on 25th versions instead.

agreed! this rubbery-cheap plastic is really annoying! too bad that such good sculpts dont get the plastic they deserve...

IMO storm shadow renegades is better but I really dont like its alternate comic head.
new ultimate storm shadow is more arah accurate but thats something I dont care that much

I didn't realize they remolded the shoulder portion of the renegades mold to make a truely ultimate v1 SS...gave him new lower legs too...is that a new mold or was it used elsewhere?

Does the new unmasked head have a look on his face like he just got bonked on the head and his eyes are rolling back?

I guess the plastic quality just doesn't bother me. If a leg is a bit wonky I can always heat, adjust, and cool it back into place.

It's more just a certain je ne sais quois. The head sculpt just isn't right. The flesh tone is very unrealistic. No paint on the weapons.

With Renegades SS you could just tell that someone tried to make the coolest Storm Shadow they possibly could.

The new one is comes close. The Sculpting on the arms and legs is very nicely done. The figure is just a bit off somehow. As much as want it to be the coolest version of Stormy ever, it just isn't. It's not awful, but it's not great. They cut to many corners.

How about...

25th head
Ret torso
Ren arms
Ren legs

AND...
if you mod the Resolute feet for rockers along with the ankle part, you'd have a decent/close Sideshow version.

That would look pretty cool. Might have some mobility issues at the shoulder, though. Thing about the new ninja torso is they are kinda slim. Storm Shadow was fairly stocky in older interpretations. There are a few other details the 25th torso has that I like as well.

^^^

That's what the dremel is for, if need be. I don't foresee a major problem though, since both upper torsos are the same - execpt for the added wing-tips on the Ret version. So... Ren arms should fit right in.

I wonder if they will ever release the V2 Stormy that was in the concept case. I'd like to have a "good guy" version of him. Who knows, maybe for the next film, if it happens. A custom of him wouldn't be too hard to do, but it's just not the same.

I remember him now...I think all the other amazing figures shown at the time, GH for instance, made it hard to get any one figure to stick out...

It's such a sweet looking figure. Too bad we will never see it :(

I don't know. With where the storyline was left in Retaliation it could be tied in to the movie without much trouble. Fans would go bananas for it if they went with the V2 Storm Shadow garb in the next movie. I know I would. I can't be the only one who doesn't want to see SS in that goofy Rise Of Cobra outfit again. It amazes me that they keep making figures with that mold.
