I wonder if we should post the Kampfgruppe Von Abt site? It's 1:6, and you don't get the immersion, but it's made up for with 1:6 Class 52 locomotives, K5 (E) rail guns and Ju-52s.

I used to do shots like these with 1/24 cars, long before digital cameras. Unfortunately the photos and negatives were damaged during a flood.

there is a train scale called G scale (I think) that is very large and almost the right size for 3.75 action figures.

G scale can vary (depending on the manufacturer) from 1/24 to 1/20. They'd make reasonable background props in forced-perspective shots.
