That I do! The brace one.

I think he makes a better BA Barakas. I picked up several of the K mart 4 packs for $2.50 each when they were blowing out all of the RoC toys a few years ago. I still have a couple of sealed sets that I have been saving for fodder. The lower legs and Renegades Ripcord knees work well with the upper legs from Retaliation W1 Roadblock.

Holy shit, I passed on those when I saw them, but $2.50 for 4 figs? Hell yeah, that's a good deal. I am surprised they haven't reused that HD torso, it's not bad. The fucking short neck sucks, but if they retooled it or figured out some way to get a head to fit on it without it looking dumb, it would be a great "big torso" body. Legs aren't half bad, either. I think they only reused them on Benchpress, right?

As I recall, yeah.

Short necks piss me off. Make everything more difficult.

The problem was with the head itself. the jaw wasn't hollowed out

I added a ball on top of the neck ball (cut a slight bit off to make it flat to drill hole into to secure new neck ball)and just chose a head that would cover it for the most part.
I'll get a pic in a second.

So, I know that every customizer seems to have his own paint brand that he swears by, and some hate Tamiya but I've had pretty good luck with it over the years. I especially like their color selection, but there are a few colors that just suck. I hate their whites (gloss and matte) and reds, but I found a white that I'd bought years ago and forgotten about, and have been using that lately.

Citadel's Games Workshops Skull White:

I also use their Elf flesh, and bronze flesh quite often (although mixed to match skin tones).

And damn if I can't find that anymore. It's a great white, goes on smoothly (multiple thin layers, but gets good coverage that I absolutely cannot get with fucking Tamiya).

I've also found it listed with "Citadel White Scar" listed in parentheses, so maybe in the US/UK there are different names?

But they apparently don't carry that style anymore, so I'm trying to find the new version of it, I guess. But the hobby shop I used to go to closed and a new one opened up in a nearby location, and I found that they have Citadel paints, but now they're organized all weird… Were they always divided up by "base", "layer", "dry", etc?

About a year ago, they changed the line and reorganized it into a pretty good painting "system". They've got a text book out that explains everything but it's like $40. Somewhere online theres a list thst shows what each is now named. Here's the jist.

Base can go straight on. They're packed with a ton of pigment and very little extender base.

Layers are complimentary colors that you paint over a base to change the color. For instance, when doing skin tones, I start with "ratskin" which is very dark and orangish, but then I add the layers to alter it to a correct color.

Dry are pigments that can be drybrushed on for different weathering effects.

I think the washes are self explanatory.

Yeah, I came to about the same conclusion after reading up on it on their site. I guess it does make sense, but I'm annoyed that I can't find the color I used up. I just ordered it off Amazon (it was cheaper off Amazon than direct from their site, wtf?) and got the white layer and white basecoat, and black basecoat. I figured I'd try the new ones out.

What was wrong with their old colors and system? Or did they just have colors without thickness/classifications?

WIP Sub-Zero. Fairly easy kitbash, but with pricier cast/repro parts. I'll need to repaint the entire figure, though, or remove the camo on the arms and legs.

I'm not 100% sure if I'm going to add the vintage blue or not, but I think I'll add it, but subdued or in lesser amounts, substituted with grays. It's slightly weird to me that he's got 2 hoods on, but doesn't bother me too badly. I'd considered other torsos but I really like that cancelled Duke webgear and haven't used it yet. What do you guys think, proceed? Any suggestions on the color?

I've still got work to do on the head (primarily either painting the hood or the fur a different color and cleaning the edges around his face, but the face is pretty much done) and obviously the coat needs painting, etc. There's also the option of using greens, as his V2 deco used that, too. (I want to leave the main areas white though.)

I'm not a fan of the double hood either. It looks funny. Although thinking about it, here in arctic land MN, I often times wear a hoodie with my winter coat that also has a hood and I'll use both hoods. So it's not out of the ordinary I guess.

I say stick with the V1 deco and fly those ARAH F.A.G. colors proud :D

This ^^

And like MW, I've worn two hoods at the same time and even a winter cap under those...

Man, that torso looks great!...I had forgotten about it...I need to place another order and get me one!

I have yet to try out their new system, but have never had any trouble with the previous one.

I really like Tamiya paints. Recently airbrushed one of their greys on a SW Crab Droid. The droid had been primed in Citadel's Chaos Black spray paint, by the way. After a 24+ hour dry time, it's got this perfect even matte finish and it's 100% nail scratch proof.

Goddamn you both! I had talked myself into using both the hooded head and hooded webgear/torso by the time I went to bed. Blarg. I think it looks cool at first glance, but doesn't really look right though, if you stop to think about it.

I tried to find reference photos to talk myself into it and only found one or two that came close, and it was always a big puffy hat, not an actual hood.

I love that webgear, too. Which is why I finally decided to use it on a custom, and I like the way those arms and legs look better than the weird damn armored Duke body it was intended for.

What's your vote on colors, Eddie? ARAH F.A.G. all the way?

Mandingo rex don't use the vintage colors on sub zero. Keep it as it is. With some painting and washes it will be a great figure. These arms and legs are from roc arctic snake eyes but do you change the torso or only the coat?

A VERY early WIP shot. Need to chop the knees off my Obi Wan and mod the boot legs for the MU pegs. :D

Ha!

Wonder if my SWG order will come today. Don't think I have anything in it that will actually finish one of these customs, but it might move one or two along.
