Would resin melt styrofoam? Maybe when you're done you can pour a layer of clear resin over it to lock in the details, create a layer of protection, and make it something that you can routine clean up any dust.

Something like a protective acrylic maybe? Hopefully someone that actually makes this stuff can weigh in.

This stuff is good for water, I coated one rocky diorama with this stuff from a spray bottle and it made some of the rock look like mud. It took a ton of coats from dullcoat to make it look normal again, some parts still were too shiny.

Some one tutor me on how to do a Nissen/Quonset hut. :D

Seconded.

your on. I have had plans for one for a long time using a 5 gallon bucket cut in half. Texture was my only dillemma but I think I can use foam core on it and carve it. I have the bucket all drawn up but not cut. With summer here, my garage is open again (unheated) to use my power tools to do it! I'll have one done by summers end.

IS a 5 gallon large enough? I was thinking of doing the standard 20'x48', which would scale to 13"x32".

That sounds like a space killer, perhaps just do the front as a facade? I have to admit though, a scale quonset with a removable roof to reveal a sectioned off office or supply area, and a working area would be sweet. Hell, you could even do a barracks version.

based on some pics of them I have seen. It would work. Some seem to be very large, but others seem to not be. Look at this pic. Joes stand about that high beside the bucket (guestimated). The bucket wont be cut exactly in half. Only a quarter of it will be cut out and it will be stretched to be wider. i think the height will be OK. Wont know exactly for sure until I cut the bucket. If it doesn't work. I'll move up a size, use a trash can.

My original want to do this was for a Moon base thing.

Get some 13" diameter rings, plastic or metal, cut them in half to use as your framework. Then take poster board to cover over it. Seems it would be pretty easy and on the cheap too. You could still make a removable roof for it and of course add whatever detailing to make it look more accurate. It would make sense to spray the poster board silver and draw on the lines before curving the board to the frame work.

You need to get one these and upscale it.
