Is there a decent website that illustrates and explains the gear, pouches, etc., worn by U.S. military personnel when going into combat?

Actually a short explanation of some of the current BBI figures' pouches and what they're used for wouldn't be too shabby.

Can someone help him out?

Figure we are due for a spot for some of the explanations behind some gear.

Looking forward to any information those more knowledgable on the subject can give us. I never served in the military, and I know that a few here on the board have, so if you can shed some light on the equipment that's carried, for example, in the pouches of the BBI figures, I'd appreciate it.

One quick question: the BBI single-carded PMC figure, Chaos; what type of MP5 is he carrying? An MP5A3? MP5A5? MP5SD3? MP5SD6? None of the above???

Myself, I have some limited knowledge about the various weapons that come with the BBI and GI Joe figures, after doing some research on the 'net. I'm no expert by any means, but I know about the various makes and models of assault rifles, machine guns, hand guns, etc. But if a gun expert on here wants to shed more light on the subject, by all means, please do! I'm interested in knowing what the pouches are about on the combat vests on the BBI and GI Joe figures.

OK, here's a start. I see various-sized pouches between the different teams. What about the pouches on:

Recon Team member Dan Wilbright?

Infantry Force Chad Uhle and Brent Church? I'm guessing they're machine gunners, since their pouches look like the same ones on the BBI figure, Chaos. Plus it appears to be the butt end of an M249 that Church is holding.

Infantry Force Steve Lam?

Tactical Team Sgt Dylan Rivers?

Infantry Force members Capt. Stan Robbins and Sgt. Jamal Kelford don't appear to have any pouches on their vests, but do have loops to carry items? Am I correct on that?

Thanks for posting the pics of the Unimax figures, Meddatron, for identification purposes of the various pouches! Much appreciated, and a great idea!

You should have skipped the wikipedia article and went straight to their source, Military Information HQ . ;)

Chaos has an A3 or 5 with aftermarket picatinny rails and accessories.
I'll look at specific figures, but Obi and others would be better at answering about newfangled gear.

Mostly bare Interceptor flak vest. Those figures were originally combat vehicle crewmen (CVC "clank-clank I'm a tank) figures.

JMM82,

If you are still interested, I can break down what each pouch from a picture of each set (I can get online)...Or...I can lay out the pouches and take pictures and label them. Earliest I can do it is on Sunday night/Monday afternoon and list them in this thread, start a new one, or PM you. I have been taking pouches, back packs, weapons, etc off figures and tossing the figures.

I'm currently active duty and have about every variation of pouch on these figures.

Well,

Due to the Forums' resizing restrictions the pics came out blurry. So, I added their text in the threads.

All pouches are molle except for the M-1972 pouches. M-1972 pouch system has ALICE clips for attachment to vests, belts, etc.

Hit me up with any other questions!

Any difference between the Tl-122 and the MX-991/U?

EDIT: I see, that's the pre-through-WWII nomenclature for the angled flashlight.

You are right.

The MX-991/U nomenclature is the "newer" version. Looks like the WWII nomenclature was TL-122.
