I used parts of this dio as I was making it for the one shot thread. I think it is finished now. made some more stuff, finished up a few more, and did a little rearranging with the setup. Figured I needed to take pics of it before I tear it down (not sure when but soon) and store it so I can start my next one on the table. I do plan on trying to take some populated shots before i tear it down.

Incredible, Med! Can't wait to see it in use. Too bad it's scheduled for demolition.

Love the use of those 12 gram CO2 canisters! Very creative. Wish I would have kept some of my used ones from when I played Stock Class (Paintball).

That's pretty awesome... I'm jealous of the dedicated space that you have! I think in the distance shot, it looks fine, but some of the close-up shots things get a little washed out... Especially the one door where everything's sort of the same color.

Granted, if this was in the desert, most everything would be sand-blasted and worn to be the same bland color of... uh, sand. But I think for miniature close-ups, you may need a little more variation in color or a bit more weathering.

I really like the whole setup though, and I bet you'll get some awesome scenes out of it. The little... "things" on the walls, those little details really bring it to life.

One thing you could add, as far as weathering goes, is "grime" around the main traffic areas. Such as door handles, entryways (like where a welcome mat would go), etc. I've never been in the desert exactly, but I imagine that there'd be some rust, too? I dunno, some of our Afghanistan-deployed members will have to give you better details on that.

Just taken apart, not demolished. lol.

I actually got the idea from someone elses dios on here. i had thought they used them for canisters in the background but they were not. I decided i wanted to try to use them so I took my son out to shoot my .357 looking CO2 pellet pistol.
As I said on JC, I totally dig this. Turned out great! So how long did this take to complete?

Couple of weeks. I did just one building/item at a time with no layout planned. I just filled in the spaces as needed. Not sure how much time it added up too.

Thanks MR, I think I will try to add the grime at door handles again. I tried once and it looked bad IMO. Like i just applied paint. I think it was the color first time. too dark. I threw in the brick wall for the exact reason you stated, color. I had a sandstone one made but I decided even though I didnt think brick would be in a desert, I needed the color.

I really appreciate the feedback guys.

Were you using pastel chalks? I'd think they'd work really well weathering and detailing in this case.

edit: looking back over your pics, it looks like you probably did.... disregard.

I mean, you do have places where the weathering looks good. Like the "stucco" style wall, with the rust lowlights... But if you did a really watered-down black or brown, and did a wash around the base or tops of the walls, and even let some runs happen, it may add to the texture. The only other thing missing may be a few sparse weeds here and there?

I will try the black wash again. I tried it once and didnt like it. Maybe not enough water. I wasn't sure about weeds, but a little green probably would help. Looks like I will tweak it a little more.

Hobby Lobby sells an earthtone set of chalks that would be excellent for this dio. Ground-up chalks are my standard for weathering and "dirtying" my vehicles and dios.

Nice job Med!

A combo of Fled and MR's tutorial? Nice to have those resources. I'm messing around with stuff myself for the first time.

I'll be referring to this also.

Excellent job, Meddatron! The level of detail is crazy good and you did an awesome job utilizing both Fled's and Dingo's tutorials.

Gah, you guys are making it really difficult not to start making dios.

Wonderful work Med, you put the time in and it shows! I'm glad to hear you won't be getting rid of it anytime soon.

And if I may make one humble suggestion, the tiles you used for walk ways, I'd suggest either replacing them, or painting over them with a textured paint. They just look to clean and smooth to be outside.

as you can see, i did do a few of the critiques that were given. I now need to get some Textured paint for the walks, Thanks DSBob!! great idea.

Holy shat Medd! That came out fabulous! Great detail on the buildings and all the extras you put on the streets. You really knocked it out of the park with this set. Now you need a bloody scene for the next banner contest! :D

Thanks alot brother. I really appreciate it. I should have fake blood for next banner contest. I need to check the theme to see If i have the figs/vehicles for it.
What's the Batman from?
Batman was from the Superman/Batman Public Enemies figures, still part of the Infinite Heroes Line. They debuted the new articulation just before the 75th few that used it and the line died. There were 3 sets for that movie, one 6-pack, 2 3-packs. I grabbed them all. They are fragile at the joints.

No theme for the next one Medd. Just bloody or zombies or both. Has to have blood though.

Absolutely great work. Your diorama really gives the sensation of an abandoned, lost place. It looks like a three-dimensional Edward Hopper painting.

MEDD!!! I got the BEST damn idea for this dio... Batman vs. Big Boa!!! After Bats knocks around some of the regular Cobra goons Boa steps in - he 'ol Bats have themselves a right & proper dust-up! Oh, 1 other request - Big Boa has to win...
