I've wanted to work on these 2 for awhile now and finally took the initiative to start on them this weekend:

Flint

Duke

Flint & Duke

I'm planning on sculpting their medals (don't know the technical terms for them). Let me know what you think.

Flint looks good, no doubt, but Duke for some reason to me, looks amazingly awesome!...very cool!

Thanks, Eddie! Yeah, I'm happy with how both of them turned out. I wasn't sure if I should use the classic colors on Duke's pants and shirt, but I like the colors used on the POC wave 4 Duke. A good straight up match for the shirt is Israeli Armor Sand Gray (no worries of paint rub on the should joints :) ) and then I used Green Drab for the pants as it was pretty close to the color used on the wave 4 Duke.

I'm making a similar pack to the Sideshow Duke to go on the back of the bandolier. I'll post pics once it's done.

Thanks, MW! Yeah, Duke turned out better than I had imagined, which is always nice. Flint did as well.

I'll have to post some pics of Grunt with his new headsculpt tomorrow. Used a sculpt I got off of raginspoon's website.

Grunt's head sits a tad high, but that head looks great, though. The other heads sit pretty perfectly. I love that they're not reused (except for Dusty?) so that they stand out as their own character.

Grunt got so short-changed in the 25th version, it's not even funny.

Dayum kid!!! This last group of guys R bada$$... the 1st one looks like former IRA turned merc - the load out gear U have 'em in is pretty cool also...

Thanks B5!

Really digging your customs, mate.
Pardon my ignorance, but what base body is that? It looks great for team-building customs.

Thanks Fled! The base body I've used on a lot of my recent customs is the 30th Anniversary Stalker which is the same one used by the POC wave 4 Snake Eyes.

You're right about Grunt's head. I dremeled into the sculpt so that it would sit lower, but I forgot to heat it up and pop it all the way on before taking the pic. Doh! The Dusty head is the only reused one, and I may change that later on if I can find a better suited head for Grand Slam. I figure the glasses sculpted on one of them and the different colors in hair between them is enough to distinguish each from the other for now. I've become more opposed to my Joes sharing the same headsculpts (not so much if they're masked) lately.

I have Slayer's Classic Breaker sculpt on order for Breaker. I'm not sure if I am going to do a classic Hawk, because the 25th single carded version is the definitive version of Hawk for me. I do plan on painting the sleeves and jacket so that they'll at least match in color. Scarlett needs a new headsculpt, but I do plan on using the Resolute version with the modded lower legs I did last week.

So, Breaker and Scarlett are all that remain of the OG13 that I plan on making an updated version for.

I'm planning on updating Gung Ho and Leatherneck soon. Gung Ho will definitely be using the latest Slayer sculpt of him and Leatherneck will be the hat of the Slayer Leatherneck sculpt combined with the POC Recondo head with a mustache and hair sculpted on. I think I'm going to use my previous custom Leatherneck with the new makeshift headsculpt and a few mods, but I'm not sure about Gung Ho. I'm not crazy about the torso sculpt or arms that they used on the 25th version. What sucks about trying to use another torso sculpt is replicating the tattoo. If I could find someone to provide the waterslide decal of the tattoo, then it would definitely make it possible for me to make a Gung Ho that I would be happy with.

Thanks, Eddie! Full figure repaints aren't too bad...

Those are amazing! I'm late to this party, forgive my ignorance. Did you make those? If not who does?

Those were actually made by another customizer that goes by liquidisk on hisstank.

Such a toss up on which is my favorite between Duke, Flint, and grunt. Only way I could decide is if there was a 3-sided coin. The others look spectacular also. I am very interested in seeing the leatherneck you have planned.

I like that SDS Breaker head you mentioned, but I'm okay with the Breaker/Clutch head that I'm currently using on those 2. Flash/Grunt/Grand Slam having the same head is too much (in their 25th versions), but I like what you did with the heads you chose. I think the glasses work fine to differentiate the 2 Dusty sculpts apart.

The only thing on 25th Hawk that I dislike is his limited arm mobility, and the baby head on him. Granted, the POC sculpt without all the paint looks cleaner, but it's still very baby-faced. I've seen some folks use the Matt Trakker head on him, but I'm still not sold. I do like seeing a slightly aged, grumpy face on Hawk. The rest of the figure is fine to me, just the head kills it. Of course, if you do the head, you'll need a Dusty helmet with goggles and things just snowball from there. :D

I really want to use the Quick Kick torso for a new Gung Ho, and to use a different vest on him (I think something akin to the Han Solo one I have) that's not so bulky, and completely new legs. I hate the 25th GH legs. I think using Benchpress legs on him would look good, maybe? I dunno, just not the ones he currently has. If Dusty's legs were beefier, I'd go for them, as that is one of my favorite leg sculpts in the 25th line.

The problem, like you said, is that damned tattoo! If you can get ahold of a good waterslide decal, let me know, because I'd love to redo GH completely. The 25th one just sucks.

Thanks, Med! It's hard for me to say which one is my favorite as well. Some turned out a lot better than I thought they would, which is always nice.

Nice job on this. I was going to say the same thing about the neck but you said you fixed it.

Thanks, rs! The headsculpts I purchased from your site worked out perfectly for Grunt and Flash. You need more sculpts similar to them! I have fixed the headsculpt so that it will sit lower. I'll take some updated pics when I get ready to post the "finished" threads.

It's funny. During my first year of collecting the 25th figures, the recycled headsculpts didn't bother me so much. I was just happy that they were redoing the ARAH figs! Once I started customizing though, it started to bug me more and more. Flash/Grand Slam/Grunt and Gung Ho/Leatherneck/Cutter were the most disappointing. 3 different characters sharing the same headsculpt? Seriously?

It's kind of a pain and inconvenience having to provide new headsculpts, especially when you have to paint them, in order to give each character a unique sculpt. When it's done though, it's worth it.

That is true about the limited arm mobility. I've debated on replacing the Hawk headsculpt as well... Not sure what would make a good replacement though. It's actually one of the better 25th sculpts Hasbro did in my opinion. I like it being used to replace the down syndrome Falcon sculpt. And you're right. There is great potential for the simple Hawk mod to turn into a full-blown project!

I've seen Bad Sociologist use the Quick Kick torso for a Gung Ho custom and I've kept it mind ever since. The replacement vest has been a problem for me as well. Do you have a pic or link to the Han Solo one you mentioned? I've seen the Indian Jones jacket used, but I don't think I'm going to go that route. I've thought about using the Bench Press legs as well. They're the best replacements that are available right now in my opinion.

The tattoo is definitely the biggest problem with making a GH custom. I think I'm going to ask ceraurus over on Hisstank if he'd be willing to make one for me. The waterslides he made for a bunch of his customs turned out great and if I remember correctly, Gung Ho's tattoo was one that he made too.

As far as a WIP update goes, I've sculpted Duke's medal/insignia on the right side of his shirt above his pocket, sculpted the tabs on the shoulder's of Flint's shirt, and cobbled together the Leatherneck headsculpt along with sculpting his hair and 'stache. I plan on sculpting Flint's CWO insignia on the right side of his shirt above the pocket and the *brim of Leatherneck's hat tonight.

*Even though I'm using the hat from Slayer's Leatherneck sculpt, I tore the brim of the hat off in the process of removing it from a POC Recondo headsculpt that I glued to crooked. Thankfully, I was able to glue the hat on straight with my 2nd attempt!

Really? Spoon sells those? I love that webgear! I may have to make my 1st purchase with him!

Yes, sir! I have yet to get either the Night Fox or Aero-Viper figure. So, I've not even had it in hand, but it looks to be one of the best web gear molds that Hasbro has made to date, IMO. I'm looking forward to getting them and RS is saving me a lot of money as both Night Fox and Aero-Viper can't be found anywhere for cheap.

I saw this on the train and was going to post that as soon as I got in. :)

Good to know someone would've had my back had I not stumbled upon it myself. :)

soooo, wha'cha using it for CS? :)

I'm going to try it out on my Stalker custom as I'm not crazy about the current web gear I have on him. I'm also hoping to use it on a Bullhorn custom as well. Those are the 2 that I have in mind right now.

so why'd ya get 3?...stop holding out man...WHAT ARE YOU MAKING?!...WHATS THE SECRET?!!!...:D

LOL... I figured that I'll find another use for the web gear at some point and just wanted another one to have, just in case.

Outstanding job on the Leatherneck sculpts. Not using a vest and sculpting it makes it the best out there IMO. I think I may try my luck at that.

Thanks, Med! You're the only one that's said anything and I was pretty proud of how he turned out. **shrugs** Oh well... I've been meaning to update my Leatherneck custom for awhile and finally thought I'd give the updates I was wanting to do a shot. I'm still thinking about redoing his lower arms and need I need to give him his grenades.

funny...the vest detail is so subtle, that i didn't notice it...i had to go back and look...but thats good IMO, since "in-your-face" woulda obviously been ovredone...nice job though...your sculpting has gotten so good and clean that i can't even tell its sculpted :D

lol... Thanks, man. Yeah, I've been wanting to make it look like he has the vest on that the original Leatherneck figure had. The headsculpt is what I'm most proud of though.

thats freaking awesome!

why did you sculpt that around the arm snake thing when one actually exsists?

After I sculpted the chest and scales, they ended up being level the snake tails, so I decided to sculpt over them in order make them actually on his chest. I'm going to have to re-sculpt the belt for the same reason. Eh, you live, you learn.
