Fled74's UN Type 92 APC

[Fled74]

Almost done with this one.

I've been planning a photo series of a toy version of Operation Gothic Serpent (aka Black Hawk Down) and I've been very slowly gathering the figures and vehicles I need.

This is my latest one. I realise the APCs in the movie are different, but the Type 92s were also used by the UN. Call it artistic licence.

I used a sandy off-white shade for the base coat because white colours appear washed-out under the lighting I use and many details disappear. I hand-painted the UN logos with a 5/0 brush. I used Citadel's "Devlan Mud" wash to accentuate panel lines and weathered the vehicle with pastel chalk and artist's acrylic paint (in tubes).

Looks awesome! Might I suggest though that instead of using pastel chalks for the weathering that you use weathering powders(mig productions and bragdon enterprises are companies you can not go wrong with). They may cost more but you get better colors, and more importantly they are adhesive so they make less of a mess when on display and you don't have to worry about the pigment particles start to diminish after a few weeks like you would from chalks

BTW, don't take this as knocking your work. It is much better than the average persons work, I'm just trying to show you new ways to do things that may help

Thanks for the tips. I'm a cheapskate though (or "budget hobbyist"), and tend to use things I have lying around (like the chalks, PTE action figures, etc).

EDIT: FYI, I do know a thing or two about models and weathering - two of my models have won trophies in local IPMS competitions. You can see the crappy low-res scanned photos below, which were taken in the days before digital cameras.

Unfortunately that's the only one I have. I lost the others in a hard drive crash 10 years ago.

I searched eBay and online shopping and couldn't locate one.

I found mine on eBay listed as a "Puzzle Animation" APC (the original Chinese manufacturer). I won it for $4.50.

I love it, really look like an original model, The Pakistan was using French APC called the Renault VAB that's the one that you can seen on the movie you have 4x4 and 6x6 version

thats really nice Fled...great job on the weathering...i really like the color you choose for it ans the mud/dust around the bottom looks great!...i think i have two of these i need to get to work on...sigh, so many projects

Thanks, Crimson! I wondered what the movie APCs were.

Pakistan and the UN also use Type 92s, so I figure it wouldn't be a big leap to use them in my diorama.
