Day one mini-recap:
Lots of familiar faces from last year as well as new but familiar names from the boards: SlayerDave, Obi-Shinobi, Asphalt (of Hunter Artworks), bunch of others from Joe Customs and the Slayer forums. I believe I was the only 'teenther there.
We started in a smaller room than we had last year due to a scheduling screw up with the hotel, but moved into the big room by the end of the day.
Dave built on his demos from last time, showing us how to cut open a mold and talked at length about some of the hurdles in molding. Guys who get pissed when it takes them a long time to get orders would've hated this part.
Got to see a bunch of the Shapeways stuff that GI Guppy is offering, and some of Falcone's upcoming guns. Nice stuff - apparently we'll see more of it tomorrow. Trying to see if I can get some for reviews.
I talked to Dave about repro stuff, including vehicles - he's all for it. We're looking into the feasibility of doing replacement parts for big stuff like the Huey and SuperCobra. Didn't get to really look at them today, though.
Played a simplified demo version of Relic Wars. Today was zombies vs. survivors. In the first game I made it a grand total of 18 feet - woo!
Got to see a bunch of stuff that's not in the store yet - lots of zombie sculpts, updated versions of all of the Battleforce 2000 guys, some of the bad guys from Relic Wars. More to come tomorrow.
Hung out, met new people and learned some stuff about customs, molding and casting. A few different guys had stuff there for sale, including a lot of vintage parts, figures and vehicles. One guy had two of the old BBi "Hinds" for sale. At least one already sold.
To come tomorrow: flocking demo for diorama trees, foam cutting/shaping demo for dios, wax sculpting demo, more Relic Wars play, and several hundred pieces from the store should be putting in an appearance.
