Why are the 12 inch figures/dolls made to look more realistic? How come no blue? Wish the 1:18 figs were based on this look.

http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=SSC10975&mode=retail&picture=out

12" figs are made to inspire 1:18 customizers to make these ideas come to fruition.

OK...maybe that's not so true, just the way I see it. 12" figs are so fucking awesome for reference due to all the isometric views and what not, absolutely perfect for us to scale 'em down.

It would be cool to see an ST or Trooper in od utilities and/or desert fatigues, but SS only produces a tiny precentage of the number that Hasbro runs off for any given figure.

While the above figures might go over gang-busters with reality-erring members here, there is a large segment of collectors that can't wrap their mind around the concept of Cobra not dressed in "shoot here!" shades of blue or red.

Do I think a 1:18 version of the desert ops Trooper would peg warm? Fuck no.

They make a blue blueshirt and officer so lets not honk their horns just yet. I guess Kt had such a boner he forgot that. They also made the CG and Viper. Remember the SS sniper??? I know you loved that one too. That desert guy is the exception.

Sure, they made those ARAH Fag versions (first, as expected), but the point is they made something a little more believable, and it would be nice to see it in 1:18, too.

Biggest dump on earth
Hasbro could pull that off with the POC Cobra trooper mold if they wanted too and polish it up. Give him the same gun, look, web gear, and pads. But wtf do I know.

At SDCC last year one of the Hasbro Designers said that they purposefully try to keep the 3 3/4 figures in a somewhat fantasy world, for various reasons. They still don't want to be seen as "war toys", as well as keep up the Joe vs Cobra angle.

I suppose the 12" line does not have those stipulations.

You're making war toys, get the fuck over it. That's almost as stupid as not releasing Song of the South on dvd because it reflects attitudes of another era.

What, Cobra HAS to dress in blue? They can build laser-shooting VTOL jets but can't hit up an army surplus store so they can wear something that doesn't stand out anywhere but the middle of the frickin' ocean?

I don't know about you but there are a lot of ppl tired of the undersized Dragonov. Otherwise good idea. Lets hold our breath till Hasbro does it.;)

They've mixed things up.. moreso with the POC line than anything else. A Jungle BAT in CAMO?!! WHAT! Not bright yellow?? The Shocktrooper was correct for a SWAT type thing.

The retaliation figs seem to be terrible, color wise though.. RoC wasn't great with the koopa vipers but some of the other ones were somewhat appropriate.

Most of the comments were negative on Jungle BAT, the ones I read anyway. I don't see Jungle BATs in many dios. And I never saw him in the wild or I would have gotten some.

Hey the yellow is pretty ridiculous. I don't deny that. Like the blueshirts with yellow webgear.:wtf: I'm still trying to fix that mess.

I imagine Hasbro can't appease anyone.. so why try.. ARAH people complain they want their ARAH version, realistic fans want stuff that's at least a somewhat realistic color/size/etc.. and everyone else complains about one thing or another.

I think the only thing we can all agree on is that Hasbro distribution of Joes sucks.

Well there is your answer Rick, but again you'll have to ask Hasbro why they make most Cobras ARAH fag blue. Some accept it some don't. As I said before I'm down for tactical colors or realistic colors or whatever the proper term is. But ya gotta get em out there Hasbro.

I think we also have to look at it another way, Color-based profiling (Where's Kloud Strife when we need him?).

When I was a kid.. Blue was Cobra. Blue was the bad guys in GI JOE. Sure there were a few Joe's who ended up being blue, but the Blue Masked figure was bad. Same with the red Crimson Guard. It makes it easy to associate for children.

We take our adult mindsets and project them on these TOYS all the time (I'm 100% guilty as well). I think we forget that they are TOYS first, and collectibles second. We get so wrapped up what we, as adults, want, that we forget the alleged "intended market".

I have no idea what kids want these days outside of Bakugan crap and Pokemon shit and.. other flashy things I don't understand, so I have no idea how well the Joe/Cobra thing appeals to the average kid (I wouldn't could a Joe collectors kid as "average" since they're already biased).

Easy fix. Bbi, No-Go! and Unimax learn how to appropriately aticulate a figure then I personally won't have a great need for Joes and then Hasbro can feel free to sell to kids and Man-Children who like blue and red on their soldier toys.

Seriously.

So either:

(A) We are totally overestimating the market for 'realistic' toy soldiers, since BBI/No-Go!/Unimax have only one small line of repaints out for sale today, or

(B) The 25th line jump started military figure collecting and BBI jumped out of the game at the worst time, or

(C) All the companies realize that little army men collectors are fickle mother fuckers who are never happy, never buy at full price and exist only to bitch.

Haha I don't know if it's B or C. I'd like to think B, but experience shows me C is more realistic.

I want to believe a modern, well-made, distributed figure line would sell gangbusters.. but I just don't know. All those BBI products got sold on clearance at Target.. and 21st had the same fate at Walmart.. but generally that was before the 25th line re-invigorated the 'masses' of adult collectors to get back into military toys (well, me at least).

I dunno, I've payed retail or higher for most of my stuff.

My biggest complaint about articulation is t-crotches, though. That's early ancient tech.

I think you're right NSA. The two (25th and 1:18 vehicles) just passed each other in the night.

Yeah, monkey depot ruined me on a lot of the high prices for sure. I don't mind realistic prices ($20-$50, maybe up to $100 for a large piece), but $170 etc is just crazy in my mind.

I think figures should be $5 like Unimax does. If they can do it for $5 each, I can't see why Joes cost $8, $9, $10+ now-a-days.

The Bravo Team figures went up to $6.09 at my Target. Walmart still has Joes for $6.97, where Target is $8.99. It's all across the board.

Don't be mad that the 25th stuff looks sculptrally like dollar store crap next to PoC, the 30th, hell even RoC.

I'll even go as far as to say I've got ARAH figures with crisper sculpts.
