That's exactly what was happening with my paints too. Stirring is definitely the best way to go with the little jar of paints.

Beachhead's vest is the ROC Sgt. Stone vest with various pouches added to it and some modding of the itself. I had to shorten it by cutting the bottom off all the way around so that his belt would at least show. Then, I had to cut out sections from underneath the arm holes so that the vest would fit more snug. I went on and and thinned the area on each side of the cut where I removed the section of the vest underneath the right arm hole. I thinned each side of the cut enough to allow the pouch to sit in the vest a little bit and not just on top, and then I glued the pouch in place in order to hide the newly made seam and hold the vest together on the right side. For the left side, I did the exact same thing, except that I dremeled a hole in the front half of the vest and used a pouch that had a peg, so that it allows me to be able to remove the vest without having to peal one of the pouches from the vest and glue.

I wasn't sure how it was going to work out when I first started, but it worked out better than I had imagined, as I've removed the vest several times without the parts that I glued together coming apart and the peg and peg-hole function like I had hoped.

i have glued things , and as though it seemed it was on for good, plus i even clamp it with tweezers while drying, i still had things pop off. i thought for sure the glue worked great on that type of plastic. i don't glue to many things on no more, it was elite force pouches and shit like that.

Using that crappy Stone vest was an idea I had earlier this week when I was digging out my parts... Glad to see it actually works! It's a great base vest for gluing gear to, but awful by itself.

As usual, the paint apps look fantastic. I'm going to wait until we get that Retaliation Beachhead, so I don't waste a Stalker, which can be used for an O13 update.

You inspired me to try my hand at painting more realistic camo. I have about 5 "spare parts" figures I'm making into original characters, and I already painted one up today as a full repaint. I think I'll play around with some other patterns so that when I get around to a real figure, I can try to make it look as good as yours.

Yeah, the Retaliation BH is an excellent base figure for customs. I like the web gear it comes with better than the Stalker web gear too.

Personally, after making my Wry1 inspired RB, I started to like the real world camo better than the primarily 2-toned camo that Hasbro has been giving Joes since they started in the 80's. Not to say that I still don't dig the ARAH designs, but I figured that if I was going to update some characters w/new gear and loadouts, I might as well update their camo.

Painting camo that consists of more than 2 colors can definitely be tedious and time consuming, but I think it's worth it when it's all said and done. You may already be doing this, but I highly recommend Googling the desired camo pattern and finding an image of what you're wanting to paint on your figure. You can then either get the general idea of how the camo is done and freestyle it (what I do), or try to replicate the exact same camo pattern in the image and paint it on the figure (might actually be a better approach...). Like I said, you may already be doing something similar with your camo, but just wanted to try and be helpful, if I could.

I definitely look forward to seeing your original customs!

I use the quick drying Gorilla Glue. It's way better than Super Glue as it creates a stronger bond. I usually hold the piece in place and squeeze as hard as I can for 30 seconds, per the directions on the bottle, and I rarely have anything come unglued. In the case of BH's vest, I've handled the vest like any other vest that I haven't modded and everything is still holding strong and in place. I'm not saying that Gorilla Glue is perfect, as it's not like solvents that melt plastic and fuse them together, but it seems to hold up well, IMO.

One thing I like about the super glue, is that if I want to take something apart down the road and reuse the parts, the stuff usually comes off relatively easily if I am actively trying to take it off.

I'd revisited some old customs that I was not happy with, and it was nice to be able to essentially strip the gear off the vests and start over again.

Granted, my shitty customs are not your works of art, so you're less likely to be gutting them..

But for dio's etc, where you need to make a lot of similar characters it is nice to be able to reuse stuff for those of us who are not Mr Money Bags :D

I have a set of Major Barrage arms, but don't know what to do with them. They're excellent though. Might make a Goku custom.

I've been wondering whether or not I should give Falcon an LBV instead of the Y harness I gave him originally. I've taken a couple pictures for comparison, but keep in mind that I'll probably mod the gear on the LBV a bit if I do go with it. Also, does anyone know that the device(?)/tube on the right strap on the front of his LBV is?

Opinions are appreciated!

Stronox was the first one to combine the Resolute Baroness head with the Resolute Scarlett hair and it looked pretty good. The Baroness eyebrows bugged me though. So, I finally tried my hand at repainting the head sculpt and glued the hair on. I dremeled the head so that it would sit lower on her neck, and not look like a giraffe. Another thing I did was cut the boots of entirely from her lower legs and cut out a portion of it so that she would be a bit shorter, and then glued them back on with some Gorilla Glue. lance858a did this with his Scarlett mod and I think it was brilliant idea as she was too tall, IMO.

Anyway, I took some comparison pics of my modded Resolute Scarlett next to Hasbro's. It's kind of hard to see the difference in height from the angle I was taking the pictures, but it's a little noticeable.

Here's my Sideshow inspired Exclusive RnR head sculpt w/the bandana:

In case you haven't figured it out yet, I used the Ultimate Thor head w/hair removed from the new Avengers line.

I haven't figured out what parts I'm going to use for his torso and legs yet, but I definitely want him to be a little bigger than most Joes. The Sgt. Stone torso is along the lines of the size of the torso I had in mind, but I don't care much for the torso itself. I might see how the new Rockblock with the rolled up sleeves torso looks w/out the vest.

Next, is my Wry1 inspired Lady Jaye:

I ordered the torso that Jedi Master Ben made for Slayer based off of Wry1's artwork, but I haven't received it yet. I figured I'd attempt one with a removable vest myself to see how it turned out. I am going to have to mod the Resolute Flint vest to fit tighter, and I've sculpted the pouches on the front. It seems to be coming along okay. I still have a few mods left for the vest before painting it though.

I sculpted a drop leg holster on both thighs, although the one on her left thigh will be holding pouches and not a gun like the right thigh. I also sanded her suspenders off and sculpted a wife beater underneath her button-up.

Let me know what you think, critiques and all!

I'm glad to see you covered up her chest. I don't get the fascination with giant tits on toys. It looks ridiculous, and if you're going for realistic, it looks better anyways.

This may sound crazy as I hate the neck, but have you considered the ROC Heavy Duty torso? The one with the green t-shirt? I'm currently painting one now and I used Stone lower arms and with a little work, it should fit and be proportional, too.

I'm just not a fan of the Stone torso. It's just off.

Agreed on the unnecessary cleavage on toys.

I thought about the Heavy Duty torso, but haven't seen what it would look like. I agree that the Stone torso is "off". I've never really cared for it. I've never used if for a custom, and I don't intend to.

Pfft. If I wanted to tug it, I'd look at actual porn. Not 4" plastic toys of women. Or go bang a real chick.

The Stone torso is awful. I hate that entire figure. It's like DTC proportions on a 25th frame, or something. Gorilla arms, barrel chest, and weird legs. It only works on some combinations using different arms, and even then, the torso is a bit odd. When I saw Footloose was using that torso, it made me cringe. Oh well.

Yeah. Those legs and vest help hide it though. The figure itself is all sorts of bad proportions straight off the blister, though.

The head looks much better with hair, too. Something about the beret makes him look generic as shit.

The GIJCC Brazil Dial-Tone actually looks decent, but they used different arms for him. The long-sleeved MPs in the TRU sets from ROC don't look half bad either, but again, they use different arms and have the waist piece that covers it up a bit more.

I'll just leave this right here.

Haha... I like Lt. Stone's upper arms the best out of any cuffed sleeves they've put out in the ME Joe lines. The lower arms are okay...

By the way, good job getting rid of the beret and sculpting him some hair.

I don't have any pics, but I started painting LJ last night. I think I'm going to go for the 2-tone green look, with the dark green pants and the light green shirt. It's difficult to visualize though. Any thoughts or suggestions? Oh, and I plan on painting her hat the same light green as her shirt.

Seriously, if someone cast that head I'd buy it. Looks good.

Post some photos when you can - I just found the torso in my pile of SDS stuff and now I want to do this figure too.

The Lady Jaye torso I was hoping you would be able to get from SlayerCon for me?!?! Well, crap, lol. I wish I could find that thing somewhere. I'll try and get some pics posted tonight.

I decided that I didn't like the 2-toned green and instead went monochromatic with her pants, shirt and hat. This head-sculpt took a long time to get the eyes decent. It's such a pain having to paint eyes beneath the brim of a hat where you can't really see what you're doing. You'll notice that you can't even really see her eyes all that well b/c of the shadow the brim of her hat creates, lol.

Anyway, I'm happy with the green I used, but I'm not sure about the brown I used for her vest. I thought about going back to a lighter tan like the original color of the vest and keeping the straps black or making them the brown I used instead. Anyone able to photoshop the pics to show what it would look like?! I'll be painting her boots too. Haven't really thought about which color yet. Perhaps a little pink on her lips to lighten them up too...

Feedback and critiques are welcome!

Looking good so far. Great parts.

I'm thinking about using that head on my spare Lady Jaye that I got to make a Shooter. She'd be black, of course. Although I do like the hatted LJ more and more now.

Looking pretty sweet. I have the WRY1 torso and head on my workbench right now as well. Though I'd be silly to post WIP pics now with yours out there to compare to.

I haven't even started painting the face and if grumbled about the eyes...not sure I want to... :D

Glad you guys are digging her so far! I hope to finish her this weekend.

I wouldn't mind having an alternate head sculpt w/out the hat as a variant, but I definitely don't want 2 totally different looking faces on the head sculpts. So, that probably won't happen anytime soon.

I still want to make Shooter too, but based upon his 1st appearance, which gave pretty much gave you nothing other than a dark haired male (gotta love the hand in the way). It'll be cool to have another sniper on the Joe team. Who else was a Sniper? I have thought about redoing Sneak Peek to be the spotter for Shooter or Low-Light as well.

I should have ordered that torso back when it first went up for sale, lol.

You should post WIP pics! I might be in the minority here, but I like seeing WIP pics. It's cool to see a custom come together.

I won't lie, the eyes are a royal pain, b/c of the hat, but not impossible. It just takes patience along with trial and error.
