The weathering looks great on those. The clean one's a tad too stark clean, although I'm not sure what you painted and what you didn't. (I'm a GI Joe "ARAH FAG" who is slowly getting into the non-Hasbro vehicle world.)

I have yet to paint a vehicle, though. So one of these days I'll tackle some Humvees and hopefully some others. Yours look great. Can you give us a quick rundown of the work you did to them?

(Others like NSA and KT will already know from experience, this is for the dolts like myself.)

The green and black humvee was a re-build project because I bought it damaged so I built the front bumper, exhaust, and aerial and gave the tyres a good rubdown with sandpaper to make them look like rubber tyres. The green and tan humvee has had all of the under chassis detailed in a flat metal grey then was given a good wash in a desert yellow paint/water mix which goes to a really good "matte" sandy/dirt look. I also added a front and rear diff guard plate which were also weathered. All four tyres got the same treatment as well as the rims. I haven't really done anything to the buggies because they came fairly well weathered out of the box but I did mod one buggy by removing the rear roll cage and added a roof and screen plate to protect the driver but this is still an ongoing project.

Not quite sure which direction to go with the WIP buggy, dunno if I want it to be a millitary buggy or go down the mad max style route and go post apocalypse. Any ideas would be helpful.

Maybe not mad max, but a few years into the future. I would love this thing in my joeverse.

Mix some Joe parts to give it a futuristic feel.

A realistic version the AWE Striker with some cladding

A small update on the WIP buggy, I have added roof lights, small roof spoiler and an engine cover that opens and closes. I also added an exhaust and some armour plate to the sides of the engine bay.

Another small update: I have boxed in the side cargo holders and added a better roof spoiler.

Enjoy!

What colour should I paint the buggy? Jungle camo, desert camo, urban camo, snow camo, or should it be all one colour? All ideas welcome.

All one color. Some type of green. If post apocolyptic this thing will be in the woods, city and desert.

Consider the environment this thing will be in and paint accordingly.

I'm always fond of olive drab, but olive drab mixed (not literally, but different pannels and parts in one or the other) is pretty interesting as well.

Maybe add a patch panel or two in primer or a different color altogether.

looking outstanding. I'd go green like Rick said for it, but i also love the idea of some primer spots on it that KT said. That would be killer and really fit with making it look rebuilt in the future.

Update:

I had gone off the futuristic idea and went for a present period theme with forest camo.

Lookin' sweet! Now it needs a wash of dark brown or black, then some drybrushed dirt/mud like on your other vehicles.

Nice work! A bit more drybrushing with the same tan used on the wheels wouldn't go wrong. :)

totally agree, maybe some some watered black splatters as well. Im a 3-color dirt kind of guy. lol. Maybe concentrate a darker dirt color in the corners where dirt would build up. This guy is definately coming along very nicely and should be a proud addition to any collection.

After:

Both together:

I have decided to call the buggy a Fast Recon Vehicle or F.R.V for short.
