I wish I could justify getting one. They didn't quite get there for me. I think I would have needed an ASP and probably a BAT variant or something like that instead of retro CC. They did remarkably well nonetheless! I just couldn't get to where I felt it justified the cost.
I saw a video from SDCC where the main H'bro guy from the videos said he wanted to do a Rolling Thunder . Easy there, Skippy. I can't imagine what that would cost, nor that they would get nearly as many backers at the price it would take.
The Vamp seems like the right sized vehicle to...
I wish they would have come through with a towed weapon instead of the Cobra bat signal, bolt-ons and a couple repaints. I think they could have gotten it over 25k had they done it that way. But 19k is still nothing to scoff at. SW wasn't able to get near that with some of their offerings.
I think I saw one of those on one of those world race shows. The team was also being transported across part of Siberia as I recall. It's one of those "goes where there aren't roads" kind of vehicles. It almost resembles an MLRS minus the missile turret.
So I'm going to jump in on a tangent because... I still have a beef with Larry Hama, and... why not? I know I can rant here and he'll never so much as catch word of it anyway, but I'll feel better blowing off steam some 30 odd years later about how he made my childhood less fun than it should...
You nailed it on the movie intro. It was one of the most badass Joe cartoon scenes ever put out there in all its epic "military battle to keep Cobra from destroying a national icon" glory. And... it was downhill from there...
Ah, no wonder. I didn't recall seeing any of them or even knowing when they came on. By then I definitely wasn't going looking for them after the movie train wreck and then a gap like that. I believe I also stopped getting the comic book, as we had moved to a new area and I don't remember...
Also late ‘74 (Christmas to be exact), so I got my first Joes just after they introduced swivel arms, and wrapped up with a few items from the gold headed Destro wave.
Yeah, I definitely did not care for any "far out" elements in my GI Joe media, whether it be cartoon or comic book. I always wanted it to be more gritty and down to earth, with the military elements front and center. That said, I do appreciate the creativity of the cartoon at times, particularly...
I got to open and set up the Baroness figure this evening. She's definitely not as "pretty" as the movie version, but the chin is not too Herman Munster either, so that's a plus. She looks like the version from the cartoon for the most part, thankfully no longer sporting the gold rims on her...
Yeah, mine was shipped in a bag as well, so the card was pretty jacked. The plastic held up surprisingly well, likely due to the insert - the one improvement over the original ’80’s packaging. Agreed on the makeup. It’s an improvement on the look (less Kattan), but is actually less battlefield...
So, shockingly, Walmart got my retro Lady Jaye in stock and sent to me early. Got it today. I will say, not particularly impressive. The original JoeClass version is a better figure with better accessories for sure. The retro packaging is as absolutely paper thin as possible and screams knock...
I've seen a few more pics of the CGs from the Retro collection and they look pretty cool with the card art accurate silver mask! I'll definitely pick one up when they drop.
Serpy looks meh. I hope the CG has a more classic looking rifle (too bad the pics of the projection are so poor). If so, I’m in. Looking forward to when they become available for PO. RnR looks promising, as does Torpedo. Shippy and Copperhead will depend on the final version. Same with the TV...
Yeah, I remember you are not a Slaughter fan so I'm a little surprised you PO'ed it at all. I really wasn't expecting it so soon, nor the exclusivity nor the price. My enthusiasm for it has definitely waned with all of that, not that I really loved him back in the day, but I had him in my...
Looks like the Sgt. Slaughter pre-order has arrived:
