There's no rhyme or reason to piloting in GI Joe. On the show Ace had a more conventional aviator helmet and mask. Slipstream had the whole kit... except for the O2 mask. Similar with Ghostrider. And the rest of the Joes flew their SSs with just a radio headset and no helmet (most of the time)...
