1/18th Scale Stug IV

Hey Guys ,

I know this forum is more into Modern stuff but here is a WWII Stug IV .
I scratch built the kit and mounted it on a 21st Panzer IV.
I also copied the kit and am selling them now.

I am finished with the full build and I think it came out great !

I painted the Stug with Tamiya paints and washed it with an AK wash.
I used pastels on all tracks painted black with a touch of pencil graphite to bring out the look of metal.
I used a dapple method on the muffler using rust , dark brown and dark gray paints in that order .
Coming out with a gray look and rusty under tones .
I used stencils to make the crosses.

So... now that you are done with the Hind and that one, maybe time for something modern and in demand like say, I dunno, an A-10???

Early in next year I will be making the Ostwind ( flak on a Panzer IV body )

The Panzer IV's are kind of getting hard to come by at a decent price so I have decided to make a copy of it so it will be on hand if needed.

I have learned a lesson with the Hind .
When these things get bigger the time spent making / building them gets bigger.
The A-10 is bigger than the Hind !!!!
When I start it, the price will be a bit up there .
My guess that I will sell about 10 maybe less .
I could split the price and sell 20.

But that will be twice the work at half the price .
I will worry about that toward the middle of next year .
I still have to get caught up on my commissions for this year !

“When I start it...”? Were you talking about the A-10 there? (So you’re saying there’s a chance???) Know that if you do, I’m definitely on board. I haven’t spent significant money on anything like this for a very long time, so I could absolutely rationalize the cost, especially knowing the level of detail you create. And I know you have to work around other things, so patience would most definitely be included. We’ve all been waiting for this long for a 1:18 Warthog, so another couple years (while we watch a master at work) is more than manageable.

At least the A-10 should be significantly less complex than a Hind to fabricate (no rotor gear). I would have to imagine the cockpit and landing gear (assuming it’s operational) would be the most complex parts, compared to the relative simplicity of the body of the aircraft. I wonder if at least some of the hung ordinance could be copied from existing weaponry that many of us have from the BBI jets.

Anyway, just the thought of you (potentially) creating that has made my weekend!

In other news, Garrison found someone who 3D prints a 6ft long 1:18 SR-71 that says he can do an A-10.

His last one sold for $550, but then you’d need Pickel to do the finish, paint and decals If you really wanted it to be special.

That Blackbird looks cool! I love the idea of the 3D printing to save on fabrication time, but (like you said) you can't beat Pickel's museum quality finishing!

You neglected to tell us your friend is printing off 1:18 Blackbirds and modern Migs at a reasonable price? The two of you need to team up pronto.
