Crossbones, Pure Merc (WIP - Almost Done!)

I don't know too much about Crossbones, basically whatever you can read on Wikipedia . . .

. . . but when I first saw this figure about a year ago, I knew he was something special. Total Bad-ass. It is my opinion that this 1:18 scale figure is about as PERFECT a figure as you can get. Between my oldest son and I, I've handled several of these Crossbones and they are consistently well built and solid. The sculpt is PERFECT for a huge, very muscular male. Because the upper torso is softer PVC (which heats exceptionally well), you can simply swap-out arms and/or easily modify the posts. If you know what you're doing, you can afix any head to go on him. The details on the pants, the boots, the vest, all the stitching, the texture - just STUNNING. Hey, who'm I preachin' too, anyway, huh?

Anyway, I've had this project in mind for a while and am finally at the last stage of completion. I only need now to decide if I'll give him one of those deluxe magnetic display bases, or just a plain-ole' Realstands stand (which are awesome too!)
Recipe:
Mostly Crossbones original body + vest.
Wolverine Origins Comic Sabretooth neck & arms
Hot Toys ESWAT Snap-kit hands (these are, like, the coolest large sized hands with articulated wrists, ever)
All guns/grenades are Marauders
Scratch built real leather holster & wrist-wraps
Scratch built slings on rifles/MG's
Scratch built Dr. Martens 14 Eyelet (Ha! - really, I just made "Air Wair" tags!)

That looks really good SC! The amount of detail put into it and the slings are very well done. Now the man just needs a stack of cash and I think you can call it a day!

A couple o' wads of bills, eh? Is that what Crossbones is into? I've got a Marauders briefcase with cash in it, you know? Should he be carrying that around? I also saw somewhere (here maybe) that someone printed out a bunch of $100 notes in 1:18 and then made stacks out of them - was that here?

WV mojo does the bills I think. I got a stack from him if I remember correctly.

Of course he should have some loot! He's a merc! Loaded up like that I wouldn't stress someone trying to get it too bad. ;)

Alot of details on that vest. looks great. The sleeveless look is pretty killer too.

Amazing details! great job!

Thanks for the praise! To my mind, a sling makes all the difference. You know, in pictures, movies, real life: all these rifles and MG's have slings, so why not on the lil toy as well? It's like the difference between a figure having a trigger finger and not having one, to me anyway.

You did some great work, but you neglected the thing on Crossbones that really needed to be fixed. ;)

The hips, Capitano!
Dude, do you mean the articulation in the hips? Despite some limitations, I think it's some of the best that Hasbro's ever done! No kidding . . . This, and the ball joints on the Wolverine Origins like Logan and Deadpool. I know lotsa guys hate on these things, but they work for me.

Most of the time, if a figure can stand one or two steps apart on a stairway, step into or out of a car/truck, sit naturally on a motorcycle - and - if I can nuance it like this or like that, then I'm a happy boy. For me, the joint I always try to correct is the neck. Being able to look around, natural-like, is important.

Total sitting positions, yeah, we need some modifications done to Crossbone's hips, true. But short of that, I'm happy.

Eh, simply more difficult to work with than they need be. not as bad as the Iron Man figurures but still bad. My Mike Nesmith Logan is fucking terrible, too.

Looks really good!

Probably gets more arm movement than the body Hasbro used.

Thanks! And yes re: the arms at the elbow, they go a lil bit less than 90°, whereas the original CB arms are quite obtuse. Can't stand when that happens. Although, I did dremel down the upper arms (bicep area at joint) on another one, sanded and massaged real good, dark wash all around and he turned out pretty awesome!

Wery nice. Like all the details. Are you using hokey tape? That's my favorite material so far for slings, leg straps wrist bands etc...

Hey thanks! No, not hokey tape (never tried that), but Johnson & Johnson medical tape, which you can get at Wal*Mart or any place like that! It's white fabric, but not stretchy and it takes paint extremely well. Just fold it over on itself, cut to size and *bing* thar' she blows.

I'll be looking around for pix of your hokey tape set-up. In the meanwhile, can you direct me to where I can see a sample? Thanks!

Yeah I can hook you up with some monies...the brief cases are pretty cool from MJ, but I dig the bundles and the loose $100s...

Amazing detail in the slings man...need to figure out how to do those.
