Very ingenious, and it'll probably work better than any plastic crustacean toy you're likely to find.

Maybe, the problem was finding a plastic crab or whatever in the proper scale, or not having to buy a bag full of sea creatures to get one that I could use.

I'm not even sure why I went this route, but it sure does have detail better than any plastic crab I've seen.

I'm liking it so far.

Hell, I could easily see a dome being added and turning it into a '50s scifi monster.

Boy where do I begin?

Ship, I wish I could have been there to see you look both ways before sticking them in your pocket.

I've mentioned how I look at everything in 1:18 scale, but this is taking it to a new level.

Wait a minute. Maybe I would have preferred seeing the instant in time when you were eating from them and froze staring at it in your hands.

I saw the name of the thread and it reminded me of the steel Micronaut figures I had as a kid. I know I still have them packed away somewhere at my parents home.

Very creepy, but wicked cool use of claws and other parts.

Actually, this one will have a dome of sorts. I have a mold of the shield from one of those Star Wars Mon Calamari warrior figures which I will make a copy from and I'll be using that as the top of it's head...but now that you've mentioned 50's sci-fi, I can easily see using one of those quarter machine bubbles as the dome and putting a brain of some sort inside! Man, you've given me all sorts of ideas now!!! I may have to make another!!!!!1eHHh543222!

Thanks Rick! Yeah, right as I was walking past where they have the craw-dads, I was instantly struck with the answer to my problem...all I had to do was put one on my plate! And right after that I figured out what I could use for it's body! It all came together pretty quick. To coin a new term, "Chinese food is the mother of invention."

What you would have really liked to see...or hear, was me questioning my wife, "how the hell do you eat these things?!" I really didn't want to waste what was supposed to be a piece of food, so I peeled it open and just sort of poked around till I found something that looked edible.
I'm still here, so I assume I didn't eat anything lethal.:eek::cool:

And I truly did look around before I rolled them up in a napkin and stuck them in my pocket. I only took the claws (but now I wish I had the rest of the "armor") so they were easy to hide. I was actually pretty proud of myself for recycling in such an off-hand way.

And I suggest you go and find those old Micronaut figures of yours, they really were innovative for the time. They came out right when SW figures hit the shelves, yet they had more articulation! It's really hard to understand why such a big toy company like Mattel couldn't have articulation like a little company like MEGO did.

Um…. aren't they going to smell…… shortly?

As KT mentioned, as long as they are clean and/or all the meaty inside parts are cleaned out, it will be fine. Once I got these home, I put them in one of those orange pill bottles and filled that sucker to the brim with salt. I think that effectively killed any microbes and since I let it sit like that for two weeks, it dried out the insides very nicely. When I went to work on them, I simply cracked them open gently at the joints and scraped out the dried up meat with an exacto knife. Than all I had to do was graft them to the existing arm parts and install action figure joints scavanged from some Star Trek figures for the elbow joints.

the fact you were eating them and thinking "these would make great action figure arms/hands"

Hey, some of the best ideas come from thinking "outside" of the box. :)

That is sheer genius! Well played on the use of parts. This will look pretty damn cool once it's done considering it already is looking balla'.

Thanks MB! :)

KT, I tried putting one of those quarter machine bubbles on it to see how it fit...it's a little on the big side. Does anyone one know of a commercially available clear dome item? Some shampoos and other hair products have clear caps, but they are cylindrical in shape with a flat top.

Big bubble or did you get one of those small tin jewelry bubbles?

Hell, steal one from the Clone Wars line. There are a couple with domes space suits.

Yeah, this was one of the smaller tin jewelry bubbles...and it can be used, it just seems a bit out of scale with the body. And I know the Clone Wars figures of which you speak, I was just trying to do this with stuff on-hand. I suppose I could use the dome from a Joe Deep-Six figure, I may have one of those lying around, I was just hoping for something more 50's sci-fi like you mentioned.

I'll see what I stumble across in my journeys that may work.

I saw crawdaddies at a Chinese buffet today and thought of you. ;)

Here he is, all finished.

I ended up not using the claws off the crawfish so that it would look more like the original. Not much else to say, shield was made from a bit of styrene while the gun came from a Terminator salvation figure. I used this stuff called "Slick dimensional fabric paint" made by Tulip to get the organic look around the attachment points. I also used it to cover up the connection between the carapace and the body around the back.

After that I just needed to give it a red wash for the majority of the body, and then an orange-ish wash on the pelvis and feet.

Here's a photo of the original.

Well, after re-reading this thread, I might have to make a 50's sci-fi monster/alien as KT suggested so those claws may make an appearence yet.

Hmmm, I don't know. And with Spawn being gone, I'm not sure where he is, do you?

I think he went to Custom Creator's board. I was briefly on Better Board but I never recalled seeing him.

I've tried going to all three of the chosen boards, none of them do much for me.
