Ok, I'm going to get quite ambitous here. I own a Land Rover Discovery (on mothballs after 227,000 miles) that I love and have always wanted to get a Defender, but the price is outrageous since their not sold here in the US.

Since I've been in this hobby I've wanted to get a 1:18 scale version and either they ain't out there or my searching skills suck. So, after seeing some versions over at joedios using this jeep I'm going to do the same.

Unfortunately I've striped the weapons on this for my Humvees, but I guess that's ok as it seems the British have different weapons.

The front grill is a dead giveaway, but by hanging some packs off the front lamp covers that will take care of that.

Rick, were you trying to get a Land Rover Discovery or a Defender in 1:18?

There are several retailers out there who have produced both in this scale. Most are sold out of Europe but are certainly within means of getting for a price.

Here's a listing off ebay of one currently residing in the US up for sale. Now the real question of course is how much are you willing to spend for one.

Yeah, it seems that most of these if not all were released many years ago and are currently hard to find. Sites like ebay maybe your only source for tracking down such rare items.

I'm sure we haven't seen the last of these. After all the companies/producers behind these scale models are still in business and probably still have the molds to work with later if they feel up to re-releasing more in the future.

With the sabotaged lines to verizon and the strike I can't post pics and have to use my crackberry.

I have painted it desert tan, did a brownish black wash and dry brushed exposed metal and I think it came out pretty good, but I have a question on the wheels.

I took the existing small tires off and hope to put the bigger pte tires from the chinese FAV on but here's the challenge. The hole in the center of the wheel is wider than the axle.

I bought some green stuff (first time), thinking I could fill the hole let it dry then drill out the center and crazy glue the axle in. I don't think it will get hard enough.

Question is will it get hard and if not what should I do?

Any help is welcome

I would find some styrene tube that fits the axle, then place it inside the wheel

good 2 know... have been contemplatin' some of these vehicles 4 a while now... when compared to the Diet Coke can in the last thumbnail, it does appear 2 B a tad on the smallish side (maybe closer to 1:20???) Some of the Garage accessories kits would be great pieces for a motor pool dio...

Yeah some stuff works better than others, though I know the HMMWV was super smaller than I thought it'd be. Not very good for military stuff IMO.

There is a "dirty" version floating around somewhere with roof racks etc, that looked better for sure..

That is cool though. Perfect ride for my Doku custom, but he'll never fit

thats so bada$$ Rick!...wow!...really awesome job on the load out...the wheel upgrade is very great improvement...

that 2nd to last pic looks so real...if it wasnt for the joints on the figures, it'd be 100% convincing...

good to see your reference shots up top...

Thanks Everybody.

Eddie the wheels do improve it especially after the wash, but the space left between them in the rear and the wheel well bothers me. I'm not skilled enough to do custom suspension work yet though.

ehh, i didn't even notice it till you mentioned it...if anything, it just looks compressed due to weight or just from traversing the roads
