My JoyToy - Army Cavalry Regiment set of five arrived today, along with the "Paladin Hero" Cavalry figure.

Damn you pcsguy88 !! No way does it end with these guys either. I haven't had a chance to unbox them, and probably won't until I move.. but even the packaging for these guys is great.

I updated the thread title to make it an "Official Thread" (OT) for Joytoy figures.. they really are the figured we all wanted 5, 10 years ago. They're not 100% perfect, but getting there, and looks to be a solid base for customizing stuff too.

The Cavalry figures parcel out at $15 and change each from Smalljoes, the "Hero" figure is over $30, but comes with an extra head, gear, etc.

No way would I pay $15/figure for a normal GI JOE nowadays, but here it doesn't feel like overspending. I'd love them to find a $10 price point, but all things considered this feels fair.

They really need to sell heads separately or something to make army building viable. Sell kits of gear for customizing. My biggest bitch would be that every squad member’s torso has the same kit. The joints can be super floppy, but somehow they hold the poses.

Thats good.. hopefully I have some masked heads or other things that'll work if needed.

Are all the JT helmets sculpted on the heads or are they removable?

only the future Russian Spetsnaz have removable helmets...all modern figs are molded.

In the new waves of figures, the fix the crotch piece to make it more like POC joes for better kneeling and sitting positions, they are also going to have removable helmets, headsets, sunglasses, hats etc. joy toy does not disappoint

not arguing there - but to me JoyToy hips are still too wide, I feel like the arms are too long and narrow - they shoulder rifles well, but look off when not doing so...they sorta fixed the legs - but still not exactly right, cannot keep knees together and bend at hip. No line is perfect, even ones I work with. :) Don't get me wrong I have a bunch of them - but ALL are modded or in the process of such.

Makes sense, so far the JoyToy figures seem closest to perfect among the figures available to buy. I am sure they can be improved on, but so can anything really.

I do wonder if 1 figure can really do everything in this scale. You need them to do certain things to fit in vehicles, and others for posing in certain angles.. And you also want the joints and seams to be as small as possible.

True. Plus everyone has different tastes. Personally I can do without the toe articulation and thigh cut. I like how marauders does it. But I really can’t fault the company for trying to do more without ruining the aesthetics of the figure

I mod them too. The diaper crotch pisses me off to no end and they can”t drop to knee properly. So I cut the lower hip part out like you do. I’m a big fan of your Facebook by the way. Great stuff. All joy toys new prototypes either fix the crotch or come with an alternate waste/crotch piece

I went with the Marines and Calvary since they were the cheapest and I added the Calvary hero for a matching premium figure. They are great sets for regular US forces.

I also picked up a Hiyah Predator... for reasons.

Also looking to do something like this...as I've found a reasonably priced humvee. Just waiting on shipping for everything.

I'll just need: the mine thingy on the front, a push bar, a spare tire, some gasoline cans, ammo cans, misc. equipment. No idea where to find any of that... and I don't have a 3D printer.

Here are some progress pics I put in my story on @118af Instagram account... you can see fixed wheels using Pickelhaube kit, fixed antenna(replaced flimsy plastic with brass rod), and glasswork using plastic sheeting from action figure package or something like that.

More pics of wheel kit process, plus a shot of whole humvee (still long way to go before finished). I’ve added glass since this pic was taken, plus more weathering.
