People commented on my dreadnok logo. I said i would write a tutorial over at OG13 on how to do negative space painting for logos and other fine details painting items. Figured i would post here as well. So here goes. I chose to do the Nok logo again. I just did it on a flat piece of plastic for this tutorial.
Remember to let the paint dry between every step. one cannot do this fast.
Start off by painting your background color.
Now make a rough outline of the most surface area color. Notice i only did basic shape, dont care if its crooked or off, will fix that next.
First stare at your reference material, particullary the line you are about to paint. Stare at it enough that when you shut your eyes you can see the line. Not the logo, just the line you want. This will get that line committed to your muscle memory. We all painted before, our body remembers we just need to force it to redo it. Once lines are memorized now go back to your base color and detail the edges slowly, always paint further beside where you really want so that paint roll on the edge can be smoothed over on the next stroke. Keep moving your lines in slowly and one stroke at a time till you are where you want. Do not paint super slow, it will be shaky, trust your muscle memory. With practice this becomes easy.
Now repeat above steps for next smaller surface area color, here it is the grey.
detail again. i chose to add the eyes and nasal holes at same time in this step
now add the teeth and detail again.
If you want, you can now clean the edges with a sharpie if you want logo outlined.
Good luck, I am not the best at explaining things, so i apologize if what i wrote is confusing. Hopefully the pictures will speak for themselves also.
