One of those custom Sherman's

[Super Cracked]

I've been really encouraged by the Fightin' 1:18th over the last few months - so much so, that I've gone full steam on various custom projects. For that, I thank you. I've got lots of new stuff to post over the weekend, but I wanted to start off with shots of a Sherman I did back in '03. It's a 1st issue XD M4, XD BOB Tanker and Halftrack driver; Build-A-Rama accessories & various other scale parts. Painted with Testors OD spray and Folk Art colors. Weathered with Doc O'Brien's weathering powders. Man-o-man, that was fun.

where you get that rope from?

The rope is from the first Build-A-Rama Stowage set, back in like, '02. It was not advertised as being part of the set - but rather It was a bonus for anyone who wondered if the lid was removable from the gear box! It was really awesome stuff. A variation of the original set (and not nearly as nice IMO) is still available from B-A-R. The rope's a lil different today, but still very nice and useable. See it here.

Ah yes, you got me - you're right, they should be black. I simply wanted the tracks to be steel, but 21 Century had sculpted on rubber chevrons. What else could I do?!? I wasn't going to mess around too much and try to fix it, so I just painted them like they were bare, worn metal treds.

Thanks! That hedgerow cutter is a genuine resin-cast Battle Ready product from back in the day. They made really great accessories for these kinda things. Ever hear of them? They haven't been around for 6-7 years, but every now and then you can spot their stuff. I still have an extra one (hedge chopper) that I never used, still in the baggie, if you or anyone is interested. I'd love to trade or whatever.

Yes - that's exactly right! Flexible-as-can-be!! it is actually (1:18 scale) rope. Tie it or wrap it or wind it: it's up to you.

that is awesome. i found black hemp rope for neclaces at micheals, and that was the best i ever found for real rope that fit joes, the thickness was perfect size for the hands, and black looked great.

Here's another alternative: I think it's the kind of string that you're supposed to stuff & tie up a chicken with. I'm pretty sure I remember foraging in the kitchen drawers (like 10 years ago) and asking my wife about this (you could probably get it a Wal*Mart, it's a lil kit with skewers and string).

Here it is in action as handles for crates. All I did was mix a tiny bit of weathering powder with water and touch it with the brush. Of course, you could also just paint it any color you want, since it's white to begin with. Worked pretty good!

Wow - I'm honered, really! What a suprize to have 2 minutes at work to get online to check in with the Fightin' 1:18th and see my old Sherman on the front page! Cool! Thanks!

I started a new job near the end of May and I've been crazy busy, so collecting and customizing has had to take a back seat for a while. Now, training is complete and my "real" schedule has started, so I hope to be more involved here with the FGHTN 118th in the near future!
