This MP Soundwave is amazing. With 5 cassettes, he is easily worth the price. I am blown away by the cassettes and can't believe their weapons are part of the transformation. Genius!

The ridiculously stiff joints are scary, especially the ball joint hips that feel like they could snap easily, but a few twists of the screws fixed that for the most part. This is the first toy toy make me feel like a kid again in years. I sat and watched G1 cartoons for 2hrs while playing with him. :)

What is the loose grey piece for in the box? Does the Takara version have a battery for his switch and record light? It feels like it should work.

The loose grey piece connects to the side of Soundwave in tape deck mode, as well as one of the pairs of piledrivers as that connection port that I can only ever remember being seen in the movie, when he's playing back Laserbeak's findings on the screen in the Decepticon's ship.

That loose piece (if it's the same as the silver one that came with Takara SW) also plugs into his back for storage. That's where I keep it, or stored away in the "head" pack on his back. I think it's also some sort of scanner thing, too, right? Goes on his hand...

Cassette differences:

Buzzsaw: TT more gold/orange, Hasbro more yellow

Blue Frumble: TT closer to toy colors, chrome (fragile in my experience); Hasbro closer to toon colors, silver paint (paint looks better IMO)

Red Frumble: TT chrome (fragile), Hasbro gold paint (chrome looks better IMO). The reds are also different but it's subtle.
Both Frumbles: TT black screws, Hasbro bare screws. Hasbro also has tolerance issues, mostly the ankle joints. Mine stress marked on the first transformation.
Ravage: identical
Laserbeak: don't have both to compare.

Btw, when I said "don't" to Eddie, I meant don't skip it.
It's a great set.

Sideswipe is pretty awesome... except for the piss-poor QC. Dunno if the second batch will be any better, but the paint on the first run was really haphazard. Some were perfect, others not so much. The problem now is that the market has been flooded with knockoffs. They're mostly pretty high quality from what I've heard, but I'd rather not support the Chinese mafia.

I'm guessing these are NOT legit. There are KO MP Sideswipes out there, so buyer beware.

Not that there is anything wrong with getting a cool figure on the cheap, as long as you know you're not getting the real thing.

Yes, it says KO right in the description which I now realize I didn't make clear. It looks like the KO's are the same toy and are perfect for my needs. Thanks Nacho! I sure hope this trend continues since I've sent thousands to Takara already and now just want cheap nostalgia.

It woulda been so much cooler had they made Bluestreak a Delorean...and eventually a BTTF version and added time travel into TF toons :D...but seriously, that woulda been awesome!

I wish they'd show better pics of Ratbat, at least. WTF is with them being all weird sending shit pics to the distributors? Takara's marketing team fucking blows.

Naw, that's too much for a cassette. I may regret it one day, but I do NOT want to spend that money on it. I really wanted Ratbat to complete the set of toon cassetticons, but I passed on the 3rd party combiner cassettes already. I just decided that even though I had those as a kid, they weren't cool enough, and I passed on the drone one too from the cartoon... So there are already cassettes I don't own, and the main 4 are enough (I really wish they would've traded out Buzzsaw for Ratbat, as I don't care for him at all).

I would love to pick up an Autoscout. It wasn't on my radar when it came out, but given what we've gotten in the interim I think it would make a neat addition to the collection.

I just hope KFC does a better job with Slamdance than they did with Squalkbox.

When the KO is coming from the same factory, is it really a KO? I bought almost every Alt and MP's 1-9, so I have certainly done my part to keep Takara afloat. I just don't see $100 worth of value in a smaller than Alt car just because it has a Takara stamp on it. If Hasbro brings them here for a proper price around $50, I'll gladly support official product. I have never bought a KO before and once I pull the trigger on a Sideswipe, I'll decide if it warrants continued purchases of future KO's.

I was never a Napster or a torrent guy either, always paid for my music and movie downloads. Can you say the same?
