I've thought about those. Any idea on how they take to heating and reshaping?

Do you still have the piece that was there before the mods? If so, get it cast in clear and then trim it to size.

The chin bubble? Sure do.

Funny thing is, I never thought to try and get the bubble cast, but I did want to get replacements made for my missing navigation lights.

Small update. Finally got the TOW sight off of the 500, and after some messing about I think daremo's idea about a cast chin bubble modified to take the sight would work best. It wouldn't be correct, but it would look good, be relatively easy and should allow for removal when I want to display it in a different configuration. It would also have the added benefit of allowing for the actual gunner sight:

Just got to find a caster, now.

This is the second mounting attempt. I just need to figure out how to close the cockpit.

It would be a lot easier if I wasn't dead-set on doing no irreversible mods to the sight itself.

I may see about getting some automotive RTV silicone and the cheapest clear resin I can find at Hobby Lobby and try to cast the chin bubble. Then it's just a couple of screw holes and away I go.

Until then, the Sagami mounts should be on the way so I'll be busy figuring out pintle mounts.

Well you have never done anything for me but if you can make a plug of the piece you want I can vacuform the piece for you.

The clear plastic will be about $8 and about $3 for shipping.

And YOU WILL OWE ME ONE.

BTW

Most clear resins have a yellow or amber hue to them.

Yeah, you got to steer clear of the cheap stuff if you want it really clear.

I used straight up Smoothcast Colormatch 327 for the riot shield, goggles, and mask.

Thanks for the info on clear resin, daremo. Guess I won't be going that way, then.

Anyhoo, since I had the high line off, I decided to open up the fuselage again and move the firewall and bench forward a couple of centimeters, to make getting gunners in there a little easier. It was marginally effective, and I still think female figures are gonna be the only ones small enough to work out.
The end result certainly wasn't worth the position light I lost to the carpet gremlins. At least now I don't have an excuse to not start harvesting bits off the Super Cobra. The AN/ALQ-144 off of the tail rotor looks good up on the Huey's dog house, even if it is an anachronism.
