Another custom to go with my string of "The Thing" figures...Spiderhead.

scene from the movie...(WARNING, slight gore, language)

Used the same head that I used for the full figure, the Rancor keeper. Sculpted hair and eyes/eye stalks. The legs are bits of paper clips cut to length and bent with pliers, covered with black puffy paint with leg tips sculpted from Milliput.

Oh John Carpenter's The Thing, you will always be dear to my heart.

Lovely Head-spider btw.

Wait, is this from The Thing, or The Thing?!

Kidding, I just find it funny that it's essentially a remake, sequel/prequel all in one and they're both named the same thing. That won't be confusing at all for casual viewers.

That movie is one of my favorite "horror" films, and I don't generally like the horror genre. Still holds up pretty well, and I actually liked the prequel pretty well.

That prequel really wasn't that bad either. IMO

I saw the original source film, but neither the '82 or '11 remakes. No excuse as to why not. I generally like Kurt Russell, so this would be up my alley.

Both were great. I was happily surprised that the prequel was so good.

I don't know what order I'd watch them in if I was a first time viewer.. I guess it doesn't make too much difference since you know the general plot details already.

Well technically the new one isn't a remake, although it's kinda like how Home Alone 2 is the same film as Home Alone, more or less. It's the same rough series of events that happen, and the new one leads directly into the original. Quite well, to be honest.

Besides the space ship seeming more advanced than what I remember from The Thing Prime, it's set in the 80s as well, and the research station isn't more decked out with anachronistic tech that I can remember. They even take the trouble to tie the credits scenes into the lead-in of the first film, so it's a direct tie-in.

Of course the creature effects are improved, but the original ones are still pretty nasty and realistic looking. It's the non-animatronics stuff that's slicker, like the creature jumping and such.

Nice to see so much love for the original (or is it remake?) film. KT, I agree, get thine self to the local moving picture rental boutique!

I should maybe post pictures of my "The Thing" prop replicas. I've also had plans to do a MacReady costume, but I want to make an accurate flamethrower and I'm not sure I'm to excited about that.
