I would love to have been a fly on the wall when that call came into Hasbro HQ from Paramount.

I bet retailers are pissed, too. And you know what, the 3D will be lousy and of no help to the film at all. That's what happens when you retrofit a 2D film with 3D. They never learn.

Probably went something like this.

Man, this is gonna be interesting. What about the holiday shopping season? What's it gonna be for Joes? The only good I see from this is maybe Hasbro can actually get some movie accurate shit done, and not these Frankenjoe garbage.

Anyone think the DG Joes are Hasbro's preemptive action for this news?

Wow, this is heavy news!

Wonder why they postponed a "major blockbuster" type movie a month before it was due for release?

Did they forget to put green slime on "Big Ben" in London for the sequel?

Help...

Hellllllllllllllllllppppp!!!!!!!!!!

The DG line is probably it for the remainder of the year in terms of quality Joe stuff worth buying. Yes, I like the Water Moccasin in blue/black, but that's really about it that I wanted. Some of the figures looked good, except for the Star Wars 1977 flexibility and articulation on many.

Somehow, I don't sense that Hasbro/Paramount will alter the Retaliation figure/vehicle line in any way, shape or form.

In fact, the lack of articulation and flexibility is probably due to the fact that Hasbro has to cut a check to Paramount for each figure sold with a "Retaliation" reference on it, therefore they simply cut details (and saved on production costs) to make up for the money lost to Paramount.

Consensus around the net (from those not blaming Hasbro) seems to be that competition from other big movies was going to be too much.

I've also seen it speculated that since tatum apparently has had two movies that performed well lately (neither of which I know), they might be increasing his presence in the movie. I know we'll all be excited if that's the case.

Doubtful, since it's their own toy line. I find it more likely what's been said elsewhere, that the design team was forced to by Hasbro execs and Paramount to do a rush job because the release date was initially pushed up. Great idea in retrospect, if true.

Aren't you afraid the big ass starboard cannon is gonna capsize it and kill the crew before they get anywhere near the battle? :D

What was it up against? It was never gonna match Spiderman: Das Reboot any way you slice it.

Watch, they're gonna retconn Duke's death. It's the animated movie all over again.

Yeah, it doesn't have a snowball's chance in Hell against those, regardless of how much 3D chicanery they try to add in.

I'm pretty sure waves 1 &2 will hit as scheduled...as they are already purchased by retail chains.

The upside is, we will see waves 3 & 4 for sure now instead of being inundated with 1 & 2 until next spring.

That's some high hopes. They don't have a movie to promote a movie line so it may work against them. They can't expect a bunch of 30+ year olds to be enough to keep the movie figures going. No movie to promote the toys may really hurt sales. Kids have nothing to associate the toys with and that is who they are chasing.

Maybe, by reshooting scenes, better color schemes can from existing molds like Firefly's and Cobra trooper's when the film relaunches in March and the Cobra soldiers that take the White House can be made. Who knows waves 1-4 might be collector items. That Hiss Tank that Eddie wants with turret down might be in stores next year. I have no I idea what the fuck I am saying. I'm guessing. However, maybe war films though Joe 2 is fictional; at the present time aren't testing well with current audiences because of today's current world environment maybe?

Here's the thing I don't get: ROC had a rough budget of around $175M. Chu's film was $50M less and looked loads better, to even casual moviegoers who saw the first film and weren't impressed with ROC. I have heard a lot of folks mention that they wanted to see this one, and I'm not talking your typical manchild.

So to reshoot it, even if it's just to reshoot for 3D (doesn't seem to be the case as I expect new scenes) will add on to that budget. Considering they'd already wrapped shooting, that'll cost more than if they were still set up for shooting. A 3D re-edit alone could be anywhere from $50M to $100M or more with extra scenes shot.

If the film genuinely sucked, and it premiered in a weekend by itself, I still think it would have made money this summer. Maybe not, if it's so close to TDKR and Spidey. But even if it broke even, with the bad publicity of pushing it back 9 months, I can't see investing another $50-100M into it is a wise investment. At worst, push it back to August or September, and leave it the fuck alone. Sinking more money into a turd film won't bring back more money I don't think.

Maybe the overseas market is desperate enough for 3D to make it worthwhile. Personally, I think that gimmick sucks and never looks good, plus it gives me headaches. Just slap another few bucks onto the ticket price and call it a day.

Thankfully, that absurd spring loaded thing is removable.

If it were permanently part of the boat, then I would pass on it entirely.

I read that an industry-wide email from Hasbro went out that essentially told retailers "Fuck It. Ignore Steet Date and stock what you have".

I think I'll go find out.

At least Hasbro is following through.

I can't see how they'll possibly MAKE money if they add 3D and extra shooting to it...all that extra cost on top of an already expensive movie...it's almost guaranteed to be in the red when the smoke clears next spring...

Where's the poop Paramount?

After talking with some friends (non Joe nerds, just Hollywood dorks) I've pretty much come to the conclusion that it's probably all bullshit. Chances are, the film was screened and it tested awfully, and after Battleshit, they decided to pull a re-edit and/or partial re-shoot/re-write and bullshit it away as a "3D" edit.

There's no way spending all that money to turn a 2D movie into a 3D one this late in the game will bring in enough money to pay for the re-edit, let alone make a profit and make it worth their time to begin with. I'm betting it tested so poorly, they felt a rewrite would bring in more money, and may as well shoot some in 3D.

It's all speculation, but it sounds more plausible than the 3D-ification bullshit.

^^^I totally believe it is this. I never saw anything remotely related to this movie to make be believe it was even minutely better than the first one. Now Paramount is in panic mode, reshooting and thinking of adding more Tatum to fix the problem? Ha! Stick a fork in it. This movie is done...

Yeah, what I figured. Paramount's still fucking retarded either way. There's no way this will work out well regardless. They should've just published a shit film and quit.

They sure as hell are not going to sit on that product for another 9 months.. hopefully they can use the time to come up with better figures.. unless of course these end up selling like hotcakes and they think its a good idea.

Give up while your not too disappointed. They're going straight to discount or storage and Wal-Mart sure as hell is never going to restock another GI Joe figure on its shelves ever again.
