I think they're moving in the direction of doing cooler and better sets, though. For example, look at the amount of new tooling they keep adding...
That Crimson Strike set was merely repaints of 25th sculpts. I wanted nothing to do with it.
The Mission Brazil set had only new heads for Claymore and Dial-Tone, and a new helmet for Claymore and retooled gear for DT. That Wet-Suit had some damn fine paint apps, though, and was the highlight of the set for me, personally. The rest of the figures were direct repaints or retools, though (Sparta I guess had a "new" head, but it was a retool). Dial-Tone (the club figure) only got the retooled gear and a new head.
Last year, The OG had all-new heads for the OG figures, and even the 2-pack had a retooled head for Darklon. The rest, were simply repaints. Footloose (the club figure) had new arms that were technically Kwinn's, but the first use of them. And a new head and helmet, although it was a reuse of the previous year's Claymore. Still, a very solid figure.
Then we got the FSS coming out in between (and still being released), with a mix of new tooling for both heads and gear. Big Boa has the most new gear, with a combination of a new head, new webgear, and unreleased gear in his accessories.
This time, the Con figures have even more new tooling, and they're using more yet-to-be-released tooling instead of being stuck with just 25th tooling. Granted, there are still some shit figures, but the good ones are pretty good. And we have yet to see what's coming from the 2- and 3-packs. I'm expecting some more new tooling in there, somewhere. Hopefully at least some new heads!
I think they're getting better, despite the hiccups. I think once they get the stupid repaint sets out of their system, that we can get more sets like the OG. What's left, the Tiger Force Joes? Sky Patrol?
