As with most offensive words, I don't use them for there real purpose. For example: I use the word fag alot, however I rarely if ever use it to be mean to a gay person. I use it when somebody is acting like a fag lol.

I know the word "retard" does have valid uses, as in "retard the engine timing" or "fire retardant", etc, but to use it to mean "stupid" or "idiotic" is offensive to the intellectually disabled - despite it having entered the common lexicon as such.
