It's all good. I thought he was the one you were referring to anyway. I just need to figure out how to keep him from falling over while on his stand. The pack on his back is too heavy. That's why he's leaning against the paint jar behind him in the pic. lol. I might have to trim the front bottom of the boots where he can lean forward a little more. That might help.

I ended up using RoC Deep-Zix's lower legs on mine. I thought it looked a little bit more in proportion than the Viper Boots. I noticed the issue with the knees when I tried it with the Viber boots.

I would like to make it clear that I'm copying ceraurus' (Hisstank) recipes with a little change here and there.

i love that ^ disclaimer :D

Zap looks awesome man...great job on updating him, yet making him still tied to his OG look...

nice job on S-Fs shades...they totally look like they came that way...

and please, for the love of gawd man, drop that W-S head a tad :) BTW, like i said before, i like his neck portion left yellow...

Haha... I want to give credit where credit is due. I should've noted that I'm stealing his recipes for his updated OG 13. Now I'm going to have people thinking that all of my customs are rip-offs of ceraurus'... Oh well.

I still need to give Zap his helmet and goggles. I might repaint him. I'm not sure I like the shade of green...

SF's shades turned out much better than I had hoped when I started sculpting them. I used a gloss black on the lenses and flat black on the temple pieces.

lolol... I was wondering when someone would mention that again. Yeah, I'm planning on doing it this weekend. That's why he's still in my WIP thread. :D

The o-13 redo figures are sweet! I keep coming back to this thread to see more. Clutch looks SO much better. I also like were RnR seems to be headed. :D

Can't wait to see more.

Here's what I've been working on this weekend:

I didn't care much for the green I painted the first torso:

I'll probably end up repainting it.

I painted Clutch's vest Olive Drab to match him. I tried to add brown to it to make it resemble the OG Clutch's vest, but it looked pretty bad. So, no brown.

Here's Zap finished except for his backpack:

Here's RnR finished. I'm really happy with how he turned out. I still need to get him a gun with some extra ammo drums from Maruauder's:

Here's Flash pretty much finished except that I need to figure out a head to use for him:

These guys are really great Cloud, the paint is really smooth, and are great updates to the originals.

Thanks, Midget!

Thanks, Eddie! Don't worry about the knife sheath on RnR's web gear. I'll be getting rid of it. I'm planning on placing a SAW ammo drum in it's place once I order it from Marauder's.

Again, I have to give credit to ceraurus for the majority of the recipes I'm using on my OG 13 updates. I'm tweaking them here and there (RnR's head sculpt, certain color choices for paint apps, etc...), but for the most part it's his recipes that I'm using.

I'm planning on doing Grand Slam using the same parts (except for the head sculpt) that were used for Flash, but I'm planning on doing the Version 2 Grand Slam colors (The one that came with the JUMP Jet Pack). I'll probably either use Testors Marine Corps Green or Green Drab (I used this on RnR's web gear straps) for the dark green, but instead of silver, I think I'll use a gray as I don't think silver would work with the parts being used. Thoughts?

Also, should I paint Flash's knee pads a different color? I was thinking about painting them the same gray that I used on the thigh pads.

Those arms on RnR make him look like a horse! Which is great for a dude lugging around a heavy machine gun all day.

Only thing I miss from RnR is the ammo belt... To me, that defines him (besides the shaggy blond hair and full beard) so I wish there was a way for you to incorporate it on him... Even if it was around one wrist or something. (That may throw off the whole balance, though.)

The only thing on Clutch is that I still miss hints of brown on him, like you said. What about the pockets and/or the inside padding strip on his shoulder straps? Just to give a hint of it. And I'd keep it a lighter brown, kind of like the background to this site. Just a suggestion.

Also, hopefully you don't do a dark wash to all of them... That was the one thing on all of ceraurus' customs that I disliked... It made them look grittier but it also made the paint apps look sloppier, when I know that they were actually just crisp paint apps with a messy black wash on top.

What about a charcoal gray instead of lighter gray? I always liked Grand Slam the least of all the O13. He was not only a direct repaint of Flash (the other O13 that I hated until recently) but had gaudier paint apps with that bling silver. The JUMP pack doesn't make him any cooler.

Actually, maybe on Clutch, the brown of his boots instead of a iighter brown? I dunno.

I've actually been trying to think of a way to incorporate the ammo belts (or at least 1) on RnR. I agree that it's one of the things that I've always associated RnR with. I'm not throwing it out the window and I'm definitely open to suggestions!

I'll see if there's still a way to incorporate brown into the Clutch figure. I'd also like to incorporate the gun and holster on his vest, but in a way that it looks natural and not like I just glued it somewhere to have it on there.

No paint washes for me. That's cool if other people like the, but I'm not crazy about them on my Joe figures. I know that they can help make figures look more realistic and give them more depth, but since most Joe figures don't have them, I don't like for my customs to have them. I like for my customs to look like they fit right in with the factory figures.

*EDIT*

Here, like this:

Holy crap, dude! That's actually looks pretty good. I'll have to see if I can come up with a similar brown now (I didn't paint his boots).

I was definitely thinking of a darker gray as well. I laid a base coat of Gunship Gray for parts that are red on Flash, and before I added the red I was thinking that it wouldn't be a bad gray to use for Grand Slam. It's the same gray that you see on Flash's thigh pads. Do you think it should be a darker gray?

Someone had suggested that ceraurus should make the OG 13's infamous 14th member, Shooter. He was on a screen as a name and only part of him showing (face wasn't pictured) in the 1st issue of the original comic run. Since he was never fully shown in the comics, there's a lot of freedom when making him. I want to make him in the same fashion as the OG 13. A sniper seems to be a reasonable specialty for him. I was thinking of using the Steel Brigade Trooper torso and arms (maybe legs) with the Low Light vest. Would the vest work or is it too much of a Low Light trademark?

Suggestions, please!

I thought they finally showed Shooter in a later "Declassified" issue or something... Shooter's a girl. A black Lady Jaye, more or less...

Yeah, but it wasn't the Marvel run. From what you are able to see in the Marvel issue, Shooter looks to be a guy. I don't care what Devil's Due or IDW continuity says.

Yeah, true. And how many black female snipers are you going to have in 1982? ;)

But I actually do like the fact that they threw in some mix of race and gender to mix it up... Although like I said, a black female sniper is pushing it a bit much.

For some reason, when I see that pic, I see an Asian dude. Think of the head from ROC Storm Shadow (unmasked of course). Now imagine that head on an O-13 figure. An Asian male sniper in 1982 doesn't seem so far-fetched... And let's face it, we've got a few Native Americans from the early years, one or two women early on, several blacks, even latinos... No Asians on the early Joe team.

I'd go with that, personally. Maybe give him a mustache to American-ize him and differentiate him from the movie Storm Shadow likeness? I personally like that sculpt and think that QK and Tunnel Rat could use some Asian backing on the team. :D

That's not a bad idea. That sculpt should be proportionate to the rest of the sculpts being used and isn't a bad sculpt either. Not a bad idea giving the OG 13 a little more diversity. I have to agree that a black female is far fetched.

With a name like "Shooter", you're almost predisposed to become a sniper.

Oh, and as for gear, I don't think that Low-Lights is a good choice, honestly. It's too iconic for LL. What about the Snake Eyes ("perfect edition") webgear? Cut off those straps, and use that?

Sort of reminds me of this:

http://www.opticsplanet.net/eagle-industries-sniper-vest.html

I think the Steel Brigade torso would work fine. Although it's maybe a tad um, bright? I wouldn't want to repaint that, especially on a sniper that will need dynamic posing. Did you consider something like Night Fox's torso and arms? I know that torso is black, but I always thought that snipers should have darker gear. You could maybe do the black top with that rolled collar (like from the Resolute guys or the Steel Brigade) with the SE harness painted OD green? Then have OD green pants. That Night Fox torso is really well articulated, and would work great for a sniper, too.

Actually, I may just use that one for my sniper custom I was planning named "Rooftop". Haha. I had the idea kicking around in my head for awhile. I really like the figure of Night Fox, but hate the generic head they gave him. I wish they'd given him one. (Actually, the NF webgear's kind of awesome, too...) There's also POC Beachhead's vest that's pretty badass, although maybe a tad bulky. I see an O13 (O14?) sniper as geared up lighter, which is why the SE webgear works well, if you ask me. Add some ammo pouches to it, maybe criss-crossed on the front, and I think you'd be good to go.

Also, if you don't want to go Asian, you could use the head from Ice Storm? He may be tougher to get ahold of, but the only reason I snagged that figure in the first place was for his unique head sculpt. He may look a tad like Low-Light with the low-slung cap, but I think that's okay. They'd be geared up similarly, anyways, right?

Haha... I was waiting for that one!

Agreed on every point made. Definitely don't need to use Low-Light's vest as you're almost predisposed to think of Low-Light when you see that vest. Especially if the character is a Sniper.

What about the Snake Eyes ("perfect edition") webgear? Cut off those straps, and use that?

I tend to think of someone carrying a machine gun or assault rifle with that vest as it has all of those pouches that I'm assuming hold those size mags (Someone here might can correct me on that).

I think the Steel Brigade torso would work fine. Although it's maybe a tad um, bright? I wouldn't want to repaint that, especially on a sniper that will need dynamic posing.

It's definitely bright. It's what I used for the Flash figure I recently posted. It's not that bad as the newer joints help eliminate paint wear. The joint hinges aren't full circles and therefore the forearm or shoulder joints aren't actually rubbing the joint hinges for the most part. The points that do rub the joint hinges don't usually rub the paint off. If they do, you can cut a little of the forearm or shoulder to help prevent it. I had to do this to Flash's right shoulder in the arm pit area. I cut a little bit off the arm where it meets the joint hinge by sticking the exacto blade down into the joint and cutting the arm... I need to photoshop a picture to show exactly what I'm talking. I've done it with a few customs though (another recent one is Sgt. Slaughter) and haven't had an issue with paint rub at all.

Did you consider something like Night Fox's torso and arms? I know that torso is black, but I always thought that snipers should have darker gear. Haha... Looks like you just came up with a recipe for your own custom sniper. Nice!

There's also POC Beachhead's vest that's pretty badass, although maybe a tad bulky. I see an O13 (O14?) sniper as geared up lighter, which is why the SE webgear works well, if you ask me. Add some ammo pouches to it, maybe criss-crossed on the front, and I think you'd be good to go.

I've thought about the POC BH vest too, but am concerned about it working for the same reason you stated, it's a tad bulky.

Also, if you don't want to go Asian, you could use the head from Ice Storm? He may be tougher to get ahold of, but the only reason I snagged that figure in the first place was for his unique head sculpt. It's funny you should mention that particular head sculpt. I was thinking about giving him a beanie or boonie. Obviously the Ice Storm sculpt would work for the beanie route, but I never realized that it was a unique sculpt as I don't have the figure.

The following pic is from JinCustom.com (one of the BEST websites for customizing tutorials).

Instead of dremeling or sanding the joint hinge itself where it's circled, I cut parallel into the arm itself where it rubs the joint hinge. You don't have to cut much and it's not even noticeable (if you do it right), but it eliminates joint paint rub problems!

Shooter in the Marvel run was a nod to the editor in chief at the time: Jim Shooter. You could base Shooter on him.

I love what you're doing with the O-13 POC updates.

Here's both Grand Slam and Flash:

Don't worry, MW is always worried about getting head. Mostly from Asian boys.

I like the Grand Slam with the flash on. Without, he's a bit dark, but with the flash, I think it shows a more accurate color representation, correct? I would go with that as-is.

He may need something that differentiates him a bit more from Flash, besides just the colors and new head, but I think you're on the right path with him. What else could you add besides the JUMP pack anyways?

I used Green Drab and Gunship Gray on Grand Slam, whereas I used Olive Drab and Guards Red on Flash. So, Grand Slam is pretty dark, but that's b/c his figure pictured on yojoe.com (http://www.yojoe.com/action/83/83images/grandslam2.shtml) is a really dark green. The gray could be lightened up a bit, but wasn't sure.

I've been wondering what I could do other than a palette swap between the 2 as well. The jump pack will definitely separate GS from Flash, but I'm not sure what else could be added or changed to separate the 2. Suggestions? Also, are there any other 1:18 scale jet/JUMP packs that might look better than the standard Joe one? I thought about Skydive's, but I'm not that crazy about it. I might could tweak the standard JUMP pack...

Your versions of the O-13 are awesome...simply awesome.

Thanks, man! I have to give credit to ceraurus as they're heavily inspired by his updated OG 13.

Looking rock solid Cloud. Flash is Outstanding looking. I love him, great update. I know you said recipe's are not yours, but the work is. And the work you put in is outstanding. I too feel GS needs something a little different. Unfortunately i have no idea right now what could be done. Sry.

Thanks, Med! A lot of work is definitely being put into these. That's for sure. I'm trying to get as much done of the OG 13 updates as I can before Gears of War 3 comes out next Tuesday. I'm definitely not going to be able to get them all finished before then.
