The only problem is the 13th "surprise" figure.

Thing is, they have to have a decent "draw" figure for the 13th, or people are going to say "fuck it" next time around at doing the entire subscription if it's some lame ass repaint or something. That's what has me worried. Or, they do a mediocre one this time, and an awesome one next time, then piss people off then. But if they do an awesome one, the folks who didn't get him will be mad as hell...

There's no way they can win with the damned mystery figure, if you ask me.

There's also no way we can win as fans, either. Ugh.

Yeah I think people are already pissed off.
Some of those should have been at retail.
  • Cover Girl
  • Big Boa
  • NanoBAT was a canceled one
  • Dice
  • Topside
  • Iron Klaw was a canceled comic pack
  • Quarrel was a canceled figure
I really dislike that the club are getting characters that should have come out at retail.

Pft, I got nothing out of it. Yeah, it's in there too. It's a wonder your name isn't Anthony Spatstein the way you obsess over shipping costs!

I'm diversifying my bonds dawg! Can't scalp things when you are jacking me on shipping!

$50 was lower than I would have thought it would be. Now, the other prices are a bit more accurate for how they roll. At least they actually gave a cheap option. I would imagine the figures get tossed in a box and maybe they tape it shut. I'm curious what you get for the higher price?

He was a Stall, although I thought Barrel Roll was the sniper.

But yeah, I only know of him from others talking about them.

The brothers were both snipers, but Barrel Roll got some other bullshit specialty added on.

And Barrel Roll had that stupid cowlick bangs look going on.

Fuck the New Sculpt Era. I think I'd rather sit through 5 waves of blue and pink-clad lost Zartan siblings then a single example of a NS figures.

Twas a dark time, when no one on the design team had ever heard of proportions. I believe they were raised reading Rob Liefeld and Todd McFarlane comics.

While I'm not a huge fan of the NS era, I thought the whole Stall family saga was by far the most compelling thing they came up with. I like all three, but I won't feel my collection is complete without them. There is something strange and off about the Barrel Roll figure. The helmet looks retarded.

Sure Fire.... now that is an example of a cookie cutter character from the NS era. Wow, that figure does nothing for me in the slightest.

I think family drama like that is straight out of an '80s "B" action flick.

Which I guess is right in line for a '80s toy line that had reached "B" status.

:goodone:

What was it about the '90s that art theory on proportions and perspectives were set back to the Dark Ages?

I dunno, but there was some shit-tay comic art in that decade, and it wasn't just the independents.

Everything had to be "EXTREME!". I think that's why I hate the ME Alley Viper vest. It screams "OMG Liefeld designed me as evidenced by all the usless utility pockets!".

I don't think so. AV has feet that aren't hidden behind a rock or swamp gas

Funny thing was, in the early 90's, it was hugely popular. Those Image guys didn't break away because sales were so-so. But as the decade wore on, everything became more and more warped. By the late 90's, the whole comics industry was a parody of it's already distorted self. The pouches had pouches.

I'm pretty sure Mutant X was the only comic I actually enjoyed between 1993 and 2002. And it wasn't actually that good beyond the first 10-12 issues, but I liked Havok, so I read it anyway.

Oooh, can't agree here - a lot of really good comics came out in that period, both mainstream and otherwise.

I agree. Comic quality took a dip in the '90s, but there still were some great stuff out there.

Mark Waid's Flash run is one of my favorite superhero runs of all-time (although its art was getting a little crazy by the end).

Sandman and Bone are phenomenal stories with great art that survived the '90s with their souls intact.

Some examples of titles first published from 1993 to 2002:

Astro City
The Authority
Age of Apocalypse
Preacher
Planetary
Stray Bullets
Transmetropolitan
Batman: The Long Halloween
Star Wars: Dark Empire
Kingdom Come
Most of the Sin City books (the first was published in 1991, so it just misses)
100 Bullets
Tom Strong
Top 10
Powers
Ultimate Spider-Man, X-men and the Ultimates
Queen & Country
Alias
Hunter: The Age of Magic
Leave it To Chance
30 Days of Night
Fables
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Y: The Last Man

I'm sure many people won't like everything on that list, but there's some good stuff in there. Kind of hard to dismiss all of that as crap.

Ah, Image. Founded by creators to address the inequities of the major publishers.

Only to turn around and do the exact same shit.

And Wildcats are still a 3rd rate X-Men knock-off. Sorry, Jim, should have stuck with X-Men Vol. 2.
